One Repeat Championship game on 5/30

WED 5/26 (8:45PM) -- The A/R-OAK Upper bracket will conclude on 5/30. There's one more Repeat Championship in the N.L. which will be played on 6/6. Check the SCHEDULE page (link above).

"Best league in the country"

WED 5/26 (8:45PM) -- Triple OT thriller in SF in the A.L. this past Sun 5/23! The debate about the best-ever dreamleague game continues...

WED 5/19 (1:00PM) -- I actually didn't say that. Mark Sapinoso of the 6FT-OSF champions Alliance said it and I'm very appreciative that he did. In fact, all of you should take pride in that. Without you guys, there wouldn't be dreamleague. Oh, and scorekeeper JT Salas said the 6FT-OSF Championship was the greatest game he'd ever seen in the league.

Actually, the best game ever played in dreamleague might be one from DLNY...

http://dreamleague.org/season/game.php?game_id=10406

There's also the classic Sean Caiola vs Jeremy Lee epic clash...

http://www.dreamleague.org/season/game.php?game_id=9733

So anyways, that's a reminder that our upcoming 2010 Summer season is right around the corner.

MON 5/10 (3:15PM) -- Scores from 5/9 have been posted on the SCORES page (link above).

Later tonight, the registration/signup pages for the Summer 2010 season will go up. We typically have two launch dates that you can choose from. The first will be 6/6. The other option will be 6/13. If you can get your stuff together and paid by 5/30 and start on 6/6, as usual, I will endeavor to help you with a bye week during the first 7 regular season games, if you choose. Again, more details coming.

I will begin updating the playoff brackets tomorrow.

Still going on strong for this Sun 5/9

WED 5/5 (8:00AM) -- A/R-OAK, REC-SF, and REC-OAK roadmaps have finally been updated with playoff brackets. We can now add A/R-OAK Lower and REC-OAK Lower to the list of byes for 5/9...

BYES FOR 5/9 (* - natural bye)
N.L. bye: (playoffs)
A.L. bye: (playoffs)
aaa-e bye: (playoffs)
aaa-sj bye: ALL TEAMS BYE
aaa-sfp bye: #4 Indoballers
aaa-oak bye: (playoffs)
6ft-sj bye: bye #1 Count It
6ft-osf bye: ALL TEAMS BYE
a/r-sj bye: (playoffs)
a/r-sf bye: ALL TEAMS BYE
a/r-oak byes: WOH/AlBa/TheA/Drgn
rec-sf bye: #2 Tired Older Men
rec-oak byes: Risi/IDM/Huff/Loon

TUE 5/4 (12:15PM) -- All division roadmaps except A/R-OAK, REC-SF, and REC-OAK have been updated. Click on the appropriate links above. The following divisions will be granted this Sun 5/9 off (Mothers Day)...
  • AAA-SJ
  • 6FT-OSF
  • A/R-SF
All other divisions, including A/R-OAK, REC-SF, and REC-OAK should expect to play this Sun 5/9. Again, read the roadmaps and study your playoff brackets carefully. I'm off to a meeting with the Warriors right now to see if we can ever get the Oracle as a championship venue (yep, believe it or not!), so I'll update the remaining three roadmaps by tonight.

CORRECTION: TUE 5/4 (8:15AM) -- A few divisions will luck out and have the ability to take Mothers Day 5/9 off. We will do so where we can, because the playoffs (without any bye requests) would get done before the Memorial Day holiday, which is our goal. For example, AAA-SJ only has 6 teams in its bracket, so it is "ahead of schedule", so to speak. As such, we will give your moms the full day. Check your division roadmap page for details.

MON 5/3 (3:00PM) -- Reminder: we WILL have games this Sun 5/9. Read the previous post.

Who wants SJ Wolves Arena Football tix 5/8?

MON 5/3 (3:00PM) -- Just got a random email from the San Jose Wolves arena football team. Looks like they're having a game and giving away FREE tickets vs the Ogden Knights on Sat 5/8 at the Cow Palace in SF. Email me if you're interested. I think we will need to ask for a minimum of at least a dozen, so we'll see...

Tipoffs for 5/2 posted, tons of bogeys

THU 4/29 (3:15PM) -- Click on the SCHEDULE link above.

Matchups for 5/2 determined

THU 4/29 (8:00AM) -- Check the SCORES page for the overall list and your division roadmap page for detailed explanations of your first or next round of playoffs. I hope to have the schedule done by 3pm today, but no guarantees on that one. Not only are there tons of doubleheaders this Sun 5/2, but I see that a lot of you have Special Requests. The more special requests, the longer it takes for me to do the schedule.

Looking ahead towards 5/9 (Mothers Day)

TUE 4/27 (11:30AM) -- Every division will be in playoffs this Sun 5/2. As for the following week Mothers Day 5/9, we will continue onward. It is highly advised that you check who you are playing based on the SCORES from 5/2, immediately on Mon 5/3, then check the MSR page to perhaps deduce what time your opponent wants to play. Then make your request on the MSR page accordingly.

You may try to ask for a bye, but if you do not provide an alternative solution if a bye cannot be had, then I will revert back to your original tipoff timeframe as listed on the MSR page. Please note: only byes that are mutually agreed to by both teams involved in any matchup, as well as logistical possibilities for the next round of playoffs, will result in a doubleheader in that division for those teams on 5/16 -- again, only if mathematically possible.

Dream League has always played on both Mothers Day and Fathers Day, as most of the league still wants to play. So, make your plans with your mom for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and remember that your one-hour Dream League game is likely to take, at most, 3 hours of your day. Granted, some of you have voluntarily signed up for two teams. Those individuals are advised to schedule something really early or really late with your mom, or do your celebrations on Saturday.

Standings/brackets updated thru 4/18

WED 4/21 (3:00PM) -- Most of the standings or brackets have been updated in your division pages. Click your division above. Later tonight I'll begin posting the first draft of the schedule table for 4/25.

The ol' Make Special Request page

TUE 4/20 (10:00PM) -- It amazes how some people still try to make a special request by sending me an email when for the past 7-8 weeks you're supposed to pay the $5 on the Make Special Request page (link above, although I shouldn't have to say that), and make your special request there. Really. It amazes me.

As I have said more times than necessary this season. You snooze, you lose. You don't read this website, you don't get the relevant information, you miss out, you don't make your request where you're supposed to, you don't get the time you wanted, you can't field a full squad because you didn't have the information...you lose.

4/18 scores up, Congrats DLBA all-stars!

TUE 4/20 (1:30PM) -- First of all, the scores (all except one game) are now up on Twitter. Once Tony finishes updating all the standings, at which point I hope to have that last missing score, I'll update the SCORES page with a copy/paste from Twitter.

Congrats to the Dream League Bay Area All-Star team for winning the coveted LA Showcase Tournament this past weekend. They beat some tough teams. Ones that included Kelvin Kim and Jay Wey, who played/plays for UCSD, Cal-Poly Pomona grads Billy Hoffman and Jimmy Miyasaka (actually, we lost a pool play game to these guys), and Emil Kim who was recently a top draft pick of the KBL (Korean Basketball League). Not on the level of Jeremy Lin, but still, true asianballers who played or are playing in college! Here's the list of guys from our league that represented us...

pg Sean Caiola (AL Prodigies)
pg Taraz Lee (NL GameTime)
sg Matt Lee (NL Progidies)
pf Mike Lee (NL GameTime)
pf Sunny Margate (NL Prodigies)
pg Barry Lee (AL Prodigies)
pf Rob Cuenca (NL Bomb Squad)
sf Carlo Umadhay (AL Bay Ridahs)

Margate was named tourney MVP and Taraz Lee was named to the all-tourney team. You can see a photo on the Dream League wall on Facebook at http://facebook.com/dreamleague. For more info, click on the LA Showcase icon in the lefthand nav panel.

The safe haven for responsible adults, not just sportsmanship

WED 4/14 (12:30PM) -- I thought this might be relevant to all teams, so I'm posting the start of it here. Click the link to read the rest, which goes onto say that the entire team is suspended until further notice, which includes two very good, all-star/MVP caliber players from that division, even one that used to play for me... "Due to failure to pay for their forfeit on 4/11, which was a result of failure to pay the refs $25 cash at the game, I have expelled Bomb Squad from Dream League." More info

Gym issues for 4/18

WED 4/14 (12:30PM) -- Looks like there's a city-wide carnival in SJ, so add PHHS to the same list. You must find residential parking, then walk a bit onto campus, into the gym.

WED 4/14 (11:15AM) -- Here are some gym issues. First, in Oakland, there's a big AAU tournament, but we are spared IJRC. We can probably start really late at TFRC and BCRC. As a result of these bogeys, there's always a chance that your division could be postponed if it is greatly affected by the missing gyms in Oakland.

In SF, MDLS also has an AAU tournament (mid-April is always a big week for AAU, for some reason), however, I've gotten VMSB as a backup to that. We'll just have to see how the cookie crumbles on that one. Again, there's always that small chance that I'd have to postpone your division due to lack of available gym time. I've got my work cut out for tonight.

At JLHS in SJ, we have this from our gym director: "Heads up, parking will be unavailable in the front parking lot area and the large parking lot due to heavy construction, there is parking to the right facing the school, it will be a little walk, could you pass this along, thanks"

Standings thru 4/11 games updated

TUE 4/13 (10:30PM) -- Thanks to Tony. Click on your division roadmap above. Some divisions are actually starting playoffs this Sun 4/18. I will be figuring out playoff seeds for those divisions next. Then the first draft of the Sun 4/18 starts to go up.

You guys left YBHS with too much trash

MON 4/12 (9:15PM) -- YBHS gym director was also not pleased with the trash. I guess they're not used to it. Can everybody just please make a more conscious effort to clean up after themselves? People, send me suggestions on how to improve this. Because I don't know what to do except raise fees and tell gym directors, okay, I'll pay you an extra half-hour for cleanup. Help?!

Tipoffs for 4/11 posted

THU 4/8 (8:00AM) -- Click on the SCHEDULE page. See trash issue two articles below.

Spaldings: very few left now

THU 4/8 (12:15AM) -- Thanks to those who emailed me about the Spaldings. I will get to your email shortly and be coming up with logistics for delivery. There's a good chance it may need to wait until 4/18, because I just realized that my presence is needed for scorekeeping a lot this Sun 4/11, but at least we know who wants what Spaldings. Again, I'll reply soon.

Stop leaving your trash or else it will cost you

WED 4/7 (11:59PM) -- Some of you are not cleaning up after yourselves. The problem with it is, no one wants to clean up your mess and then people leave it there all day, accumulating until the end of the day, little by little. If the gym you're at doesn't have janitorial services, then you've just soured Dream League's good name with the gym director.

I don't wanna be a babysitter as much as the next guy, so here's what I will do. Right now, for whatever reason, the issue where this is the worst is BCRC. I will eat the cost of paying a scorekeeper to stay an extra "game" (there's no way I can pay a guy half-price to clean up bottles for half an hour, you understand?), for the remainder of the season.

If I hear another gym director call me with trash problems, then depending on where that gym is, I will raise fees in that area. So if it's Bushrod again, then I'll raise fees next season for all Oakland teams to cover the cost of paying scorekeepers extra for cleanup. I know that ISAH is not too far behind. How do I know this? The banana peel I had to throw away 3 weeks ago. Absurd.

Anyways, I'm sure the cost of janitorial services is built into every NBA ticket, so this ain't some profound discovery.

Also, the BCRC director found Heineken bottles there. Please note, it is a misdemeanor to bring alcohol. This is not my battle. This is the gym director's. He has to protect his own job security, you know, while also maintaining a center that's suitable to open for the public the next morning. So, you can probably be sure he's going to watch you with an eagle eye from here on out. What a dumb thing you did. The last thing you want is a gym director watching your every move.

Overall, I wish I could pinpoint which teams are being irresponsible, but unfortunately the cost of implementing such a security system is greater than that of the satisfaction of catching them in the act. But I'll bet you I can already guess which teams they are. You know, we have a lot of eyes and ears. Maybe we can't pinpoint it today, but we kinda know who's capable of what.

And there are the team captains reading this right now and thinking it's probably one or two players they know who are capable of this. I'm nodding my head as you read this. It's really time to think about it: Do you really want this guy on your team from here on out? A guy who can't even cleanup after himself? Because if he gets caught, the whole team goes down. Ain't no different than the NBA.

Worst list of special requests ever for 4/11

WED 3/31 (10:45AM) -- Remember, only roughly half of the league is taking this weekend off for Easter 4/4. This was literally the result of surveys that I took with all the captains (if you never got back to me by email, I assumed you could play). Check your roadmap by clicking on the appropriate division link above, to see if you're playing.

Standings thru 3/28 games updated

WED 3/31 (10:45AM) -- A/R-SF standings fixed... TUE 3/30 (3:30PM) -- Thanks to Tony, almost all of the standings have been updated (click on the division name above). The one he gave me for A/R-SF is faulty, so he's figuring that out right now. Hopefully we'll have a fix for that soon, so right now, A/R-SF remains the only division with standings not updated.

Scores from 3/28 posted

TUE 3/30 (1:45PM) -- Click on the SCORES link above.

Payments/Technicals to be updated soon

THU 3/25 (11:00AM) -- Last week was so ultra-busy, I didn't get a chance to police you guys and make sure you had paid your next installment. So, I'll be checking in the next 24-48 hours and if there's a team that's behind, hell will rain! :-)

Also, as I mentioned in a previous post, I am instituting the technical foul fines of $5 per tech. It's all or nothing. I can't impose a fine only on guys who "deserve it" -- which is why I'm reinstituting it -- versus guys who have gotten their first tech unexpectedly; it has to be a blanket rule. FYI, I have never fined anyone for getting a tech just blurting out an expletive not directed at anyone (very important distinction!), as some of our more church-going refs might do, so if that happened to you, then that's a little different.

So on Sunday, we will have lists of players that need to pay their penalty at each game, for previous technical fouls transgressed this season. We will require ID and that player must hand the scorekeeper the fine. As such, I hope it's clear that I do not need technical fouls as a revenue stream, otherwise, I would simply invoice your team captain as I've done in the past. My goal is to literally have the guys who are getting techs to learn something, on the spot. After all, the Boston Celtics don't send a $500 check to the league office when Rasheed Wallace flips his lid, 'Sheed does.

If you have the time, you should read my 5-year-old dissertation on complaining about refs. However, I do see improvement across the board, over the years. In particular, I'm glad that although guys (and they tend to be the younger guys in our league) still have issues with refs, they generally aren't popping off on the court and making a huge scene. Still, I want people to focus on things they can control, such as turnovers or bad shot selection or bad transition defense, rather than things that they cannot control (the refs).

Incomplete scoresheets = delay-of-games

WED 3/24 (9:00PM) -- Incomplete scoresheets will hereby result in delay-of-game warning, of which if you have 2, it will be a technical foul... More info

"Soft" byes

WED 3/24 (1:00PM) -- Now that roadmaps are up and in full swing of being tweaked here and there, and the fact that I recall at least two instances of changing roadmaps based on special requests on the MSR page this week which involve swapping the byes of certain teams, it's a good time for a reminder. In Dream League, we're not supposed to have any byes at all. However, sometimes you'll be in a division where you have an odd number teams, which forces us to give a bye to someone every week.

However, per the "ground rules" established on each roadmap (posted to the right of each roadmap table), as scheduler, I need to reserve the right to move those natural byes in case of scheduling occurrences. Special requests are considered scheduling occurrences. Therefore, you don't necessarily have the freedom to look at the roadmap and schedule a vacation -- unless you have your captain contact me and "lock down" that bye before someone asks for a special request. So anyways, that is the nature of the beast here at Dream League.

Matchups for 3/28 determined, not posted yet

WED 3/24 (11:30AM) -- Still working on the tipoffs, but matchups for 3/28 will be based on all the updated roadmaps. While going down the Make Special Request page, there were small structural changes to said roadmaps based on requests, those have been posted with replies already. Next up: posting the first draft of matchups on the SCHEDULE page with Special Request on tipoffs for 3/28, then posting the next draft of the SCHEDULE in chronological order.

Standings, scores thru 3/22 updated

TUE 3/23 (2:15PM) -- You can see that all the division links are now duplicated above, so you can go straight to your standings and roadmaps without scrollind down and clicking something in the lower righthand table. Well, sort of. Some of the standings are still whacked, much to my chagrin. Hopefully my crew will fix the ones that need to be fixed, soon.

Curveball: 4/18, Oakland, LA Showcase

LA Showcase Tourney Signup Page

TUE 3/23 (2:00PM) -- Just realized that we don't have MDLS either on 4/18 due to another AAU tourney. Guess that weekend is big for the AAU. I'm trying to get VMSB all day as a backup to MDLS though. If I can't get VMSB, then change everything in the post below from "Oakland" to "SF and Oakland".

TUE 3/23 (8:00AM) -- I was informed yesterday by the Oakland Parks & Rec people that there will be a huge youth AAU tourney the weekend of 4/17-18, which will effectively shut out a vast majority of our Oakland games on Sun 4/18 -- roadmap updates pending. It also happens to be the same weekend as our LA Showcase Tourney. So, to encourage more of you league teams to make the trek down to LA and play against some of our SoCal brethren in the PacRim league (they don't usually play in tournaments, either), I have concocted the following discount for you...

First off, the entry fee for the "for fun" divisions (Masters 32+ yrs old and Intermediate/Rec, to be precise) is only $280. It is your standard Japanese Tournament-style 8-team Consolation Bracket, 2 games guaranteed, whereby 6 of the 8 teams will play 3 games exactly. If you are one of the first 4 teams to signup for either "for fun" division, I will pay for your Saturday night hotel stay (1 room with 2 beds only) at the Four Points Sheraton LAX, which is only about 20 minutes drive on the freeway from the gym.

If your team is from SF, SJ, or the Peninsula, you can certainly plan to keep playing our league on 4/18. However, if you do make the trip down to LA, we will automatically call 4/18 a makeup weekend and not force any team going to LA to makeup our league here with a doubleheader -- that wouldn't be fair, now, would it?

My hope is that doing so makes it easier for you to (1) plan this trip in terms of where to stay, and (2) reduce costs. Check the tourney link above for more details. The discount is not applicable for teams in the competitive divisions: Asian-Elite, Open-Comp, Asian-6FT, Open-6FT.

Remember, our partner in LA, PacRimSports.com, has over 200 teams. This should be a great opportunity to play some teams from down South, esp if you're from Oakland since we will have our 510-area gyms unavailable that day, anyways.

SMH of the week

TUE 3/23 (8:00AM) -- Here we go again...
  • Don't know why y'all keep emailing me your scheduling-related issues. Have you an idea the amount of emails I get? You email me something, it's like throwing a needle in a haystack. Plus, it totally ruins my flow. So, for the 178th time, you need to address all byes, all tipoffs, all overlaps on the Make Special Request Page. Let's see who isn't reading the website next week. SMH.

  • "Rich, the refs gave us technical fouls for not having proper jerseys." Read the RULES®ULATIONS page. My staff is trained to issue techs if you don't have unique numbers, i.e., if you make life difficult for a ref or scorekeeper -- you know, we *do* keep track of fouls and all the other stats. If you're a team that ordered unis from me, then you need to speak up. How is my staff gonna know that you ordered unis? They're gonna do what they're trained to do. Now, I gave all captains my cellphone number. Text me on gameday whenever weird stuff happens to you. It's not hard. SMH.

  • Perhaps unbeknownst to you, I've had a moratorium of sorts on the $5 technical foul fees the past two weeks. I kinda felt sorry for some people, but I really wanted to see if the league could keep going without those fees. NOT. Why? Because the SAME guys are getting the same technicals. When scorekeepers tell me who got unsportsmanlike technicals, I can almost guess who got them. Hey, you, Rasheed Wallaces. Clean up your act. Done had too many fights break out because of your type. So from now on, I will backtrack and force all those players to pay their $5 per technical fee, otherwise they will not be allowed to play. Btw some of you who have been ejected, you owe $10 (2 techs x $5). And I want THOSE players to pay it. A captain paying $5 online to me does not send the message to the player. SMH.

  • Look, if the Disqus thing on the Make Special Request page isn't working, see if they are down for maintenance or something, try a different browser, or just have a teammate fill it in for you. Sure, you can email me worst-case scenario, but I gotta be honest with you, with the volume of email I get, I may not get your request! Do you wanna take that risk? On the other hand, if you posted it on the MSR page, then it's there on the "bulletin board" and you know it's there, I know it's there, everyone knows it's there. You really wanna email me, go ahead and take that risk. Hell, I wouldn't email myself at this point! And remember the bottom line: you are asking for a special request. You are asking me to go out of my way for you this one time. Don't be upset about that in any way, shape or form. Be happy you can do that. Because in other leagues (e.g., Walnut Creek Tice League), you can't do that!

  • Remember, each week I wipe out the Disqus posts from the previous week. So it's safer if you repost your bye request that was for a future week. Posting a bye request that does not pertain to the upcoming Sunday can result in unwanted results. You try to sift through all that stuff each week, you'll know what I mean. It becomes a blur and you start thinking every request pertains to the same upcoming Sunday. So anyways, I just deleted last week's posts. You better check the MSR page just in case, if you had one.

Possibly moving your future bye

THU 3/18 (10:15PM) -- Crazy night of NCAA hoops, huh? Well, anyways, I'm done thru the A/R-SJ roadmap. Still cranking. Sorry... (1:15PM) -- I'm now done with roadmaps from NL thru 6FT-SJ. Remember, last week was a "core dump". This week's effort sets it in stone, has nice tables, and takes 4/4 Easter into account so we can see about when near the end of May we will wind down. Right now, I need to take a break. I will finish thru REC by tonight and start posting the schedule table for 3/21. I have to ask that no more Special Requests be posted at this point, sorry... (11:15AM) -- While immersed in the complexities of the 4/4 Easter byes and odd-teamed divisions in which teams are asking for other specific byes, I've noticed that I may be juggling around future byes. So if last week the roadmap core dump showed that your team had a bye this Sun 3/21, you may not actually have a bye this Sun 3/21. Check some of the roadmap/standings pages that have already been posted for a sampling of the logistics involved (read the GROUND RULES section on the right of each posted roadmap table).

Through NBA eyes: the NCAA Tourney

THU 3/18 (10:30AM) -- Oops, yesterday I forgot that I was gonna submit a write-up about NBA Draft prospects to GoldenStateOfMind.com. So anyways, that took me all night and morning, so it cut into some of the time I would've spent trekking on with the full roadmaps, which should be done in a few hours.

If anything, at least I've given you a mini-guide to watching the NCAA tourney the next two days. 6:35pm tonight: mark it down. You can read why at the article here... More info

Full season roadmapping has begun

WED 3/17 (3:00PM) -- Full season roadmapping has begun, taking the 4/4 requests into consideration. I'm done with NL/AL-O. I'm going to take a few hours off now to watch the Jeremy Lin game online as Harvard faces Appalachian State in the first round of the CIT (4th-tier postseason tourney -- better than nuthin!). The game is being streamed from the Appalachian State website, if you're interested.

If you want to see how your division's season roadmap might look, all the way out until June, take a peek at the NL/AL-O full roadmap... More info

Teams identified for 4/4 Easter bye

WED 3/17 (2:00PM) -- So here are the teams that responded to the email for a bye on 4/4 Easter. If you are not on this list, you must have your captain email me asap, otherwise we will forge ahead and give you a game on 4/4... More info

SMH of the week

WED 3/17 (12:45PM) -- I would like you to share my pain. Then you will understand why I'm always such a dick. David Letterman, take it away...
  • #3 SMH: Sunday. Bushrod. My scorekeeper remembers a guy on some team that got ejected last week for arguing with the ref. The scorekeeper tells the guy and his captain that he is suspended for this game. Folks, the rule is this. You do something really egregious, *I* will determine if you get suspended. Regular techs? You get 4 and you're auto-suspended 1 game. Did I get a txt msg from any of 3+ guys (scorekeeper, scorekeeper #2, captain, ref) to resolve this on the spot? No. Good thing I showed up on the spot, else this wudda been a 5-message-deep email thread this week. Incidentally, I made my scorekeeper give the guy ten bucks. Least I could do. SMH.

  • #2 SMH: "Hey Rich, my credit card got fraud on it, can't pay the next installment. Can I pay you on Saturday?" Hey, I mean, first of all, I do feel bad you got frauded on. No one likes that. And I know you're probably not gonna shaft me, although I've been shafted before, but I don't get it. There's at least 7 other guys on this team. None of them can front the $100 before I book the gym and refs? SMH.

  • #1 SMH: "Hey Rich, did you get the $100 check I left last Sunday?" Woah. Text my co-commish Ron in San Jo. We ain't go no checks this past Sunday. "Yeah, it was the prior week," said the captain. Text Ron again. Apparently, the girlfriend of someone on the team paid, the player gave the check to Ron, she comes back screaming at the kid, the kid takes the check back. Ron had to explain this in 3 consecutive texts. Sorry, Ron. SMH.
Oh yeah, use the Make Special Request page and pay the $5 if you are requesting a timeframe of less than 6 hours, for ANYTHING related to scheduling. SMH.

Kobe or MJ? See my GSoM post

MON 3/15 (3:15PM) -- So, I turned a "regular" game preview of the Lakers-Warriors tonight (please watch it on ESPN, boycott those damn Comcast people!) into a debate about Kobe Bryant vs Michael Jordan.

Feel free to comment on the post or on Dream League's Facebook Wall (well, after you friend us!).

Back to normal league news tomorrow, such as posting the nicer-looking, non-core-dump roadmaps (plus I should have more info on 4/4 as a bye). Again, please make ANY scheduling requests on the Make Special Request page (linked above).

Daylight savings this Sun 3/14

FRI 3/12 (2:00PM) -- Friendly reminder. It's that time of year again. Ranking right up there in stupid things about America, right behind healthcare in which we don't perform life-saving surgeries on people because they can't afford it. Twice a year, we change the time for no good reason except to either make it darker early or make it brighter later (the reason why we do it dates back to the railroads -- does anybody ride cross-country on a railroad anymore?).

Anyways, it's "spring forward" this early Sun morning, so we all lose 1 hour sleep. That means there is increased risk of missing your game. Beware. You have been warned.

Btw, our website seems to be back to normal.

Tipoffs for 3/14 posted

THU 3/11 (7:15PM) -- Our website is experiencing major slowdowns right now. Not sure why, have sent an email to our webmaster. If the sh*t hits the fan, stay calm and kindly wait patiently until 10pm when I should have a better idea of the seriousness of the matter. See the SCHEDULE page (link above).

Matchups for 3/14 determined

THU 3/11 (8:30AM) -- See the SCHEDULE page (link above).

Season roadmaps posted (caveats: 4/4, 4/18)

THU 3/11 (7:15AM) -- All of the division roadmaps are posted, albeit with 4/4 unresolved as I sift through the replies to the email on that (see previous post re 4/4 below). The links are in the righthand lower gray table, under the Google ad. I will put hard-links up top probably some time next week, so they're easier to access.

Incidentally, in case it's not explicitly written in one of our FAQs, typically you play 7 regular season games and if you finish 4-3 or better, you get double-elimination status for the playoffs. If you finish 3-4 or worse, you only get single-elimination status. If you're in an odd-numbered team division and you are that odd team out, your team will get a pro-rated refund after your playoffs end, and for the regular season you will get 6 games, not 7. That means you'd have to go 3-3 to qualify for double-elimination playoff status.

Aside from 4/4, there's also a potential bump in the road on 4/18. This is when PacRimSports and Dream League have decided to have our annual LA Showcase tournament in SoCal. However, usually only the top teams from a region, say AAA-Elite caliber and higher (but usually it's just NL), go and attend -- to play against top teams from another region, as it were. Also, sometimes high-caliber players play on lower-division Dream League league teams, so that presents a weekend they might rather have off for league play. I'll figure out 4/18 after I figure out 4/4.

Also, the PacRim commish and I were hoping that we could get more of the non-high-caliber squads to go and play against similar teams down in LA, for fun. More on this later.

For the umpteenth time, read this website

WED 3/10 (3:00PM) -- Roadmaps being posted as we go. NL/AL-O, AL/AAA-O, and AAA-E are done, if you go on the right lower grey table. Will be finishing up all the rest today and tonight.

WED 3/10 (2:00PM) -- Just got a very basic question: "Where are the tipoff timeframes listed?" Well, they are on the Make Special Request page, bottom lefthand side. I know, this website ain't perfect, but pretty soon I am just going to reply with "Read the website" for questions that you ask me from email, because it is bogging me down and, quite frankly, they are pretty basic questions that are already answered somewhere here.

Here's what you have to do. READ. THIS. WEBSITE. You see all those links up there? Go ahead, click em. Not gonna hurt. Click everything. That is the only way for you to familiarize yourself with how we run things. How we don't run things is this: Email or text Rich, wait for response. Nah. Can't do that. This league is best done self-service. I'm already up to my earlobes trying to get the schedule up each week. We do not have the resources for a help desk. Help me out here and be proactive with your information gathering.

Who wants/needs Easter 4/4 off?

WED 3/10 (12:30PM) -- I'm doing all the roadmaps right now and just realized that a lot depends on the Easter 4/4. So, I sent an email to all captains asking if they want or need 4/4 as a bye. Please consult with your team captain and ensure that he/she replies to my email by next Monday 3/15.

Final Rumor Mill list of teams

WED 3/10 (12:00PM) -- Latest and greatest. There are three teams that haven't paid enough on the installments coming up for 3/14, according to my records. These captains have been emailed that they are at risk of auto-forfeiting their 3/14 game...
  • 6ft-osf Bomb Squad
  • rec-sf FIC Devilbats
  • rec-oak Starting 7
See Rumor Mill page/table

Scores from 3/7 updated, standings next

TUE 3/9 (10:30AM) -- Click the SCORES link above. I have Wylie working on standings and because Tony has all the Oakland scoresheets, I hope to have Tony adding mini-recaps from the Oakland scoresheets. San Jose scoresheets are a long shot on those, but I will try with my SJ crew. Also, the Wylie's standings will be a bit "raw" at the moment since I've still yet to post the roadmaps, which will detail out all the conferences within each division -- this is important in case your division has a situation where the winners of conferences get the top seeds (it depends). Incidentally we have a couple teams moving divisions and we have a new team in 6FT-SJ as well.

Again, don't forget your $100 installment payments. Right now, I'm trying to finish up all the uniform orders before I start posting the final Rumor Mill, then roadmaps. After that, I'll start scheduling 3/14 and I hope all the installments are paid by then.

Again, do not email me schedule requests

TUE 3/9 (8:45AM) -- The Make Special Request page (linked above) has been painfully created for a reason. Use it. Do not email me any schedule requests. Repeat: do not email me any special requests. Why? I get a ton of emails. Let's say I'm trying to get thru all of my emails. Then I get one that says, "Can I request a bye blah blah blah?" (no, you can't, btw). Am I going to stop what I'm doing, open up my schedule spreadsheet, search for your team (which in all likelihood you forgot to say), then go on some tangent from what I was doing before, just to answer your question? No, there is a time and place for that: for me, it's Wednesdays on the MSR page. For you, get everything in by Tue midnight, pay the $5, as it says on the page, otherwise I reserve the right not to help you out. Again, you help me, I help you.

Season roadmaps done, next installments

TUE 3/9 (8:15AM) -- The season roadmaps are actually done as far as structure, but I haven't had time to do all the copy/paste functions needed to actually post them into HTML tables. So those are just around the corner, but I'd like to finally finish up as many more uni orders as possible (see UNIFORM page for updates).

REMINDER: If you are a team that is on the installment plan, your next $100 is due tonight. Thanks.

Asian baller(s) playing at Kezar tonight

THU 3/4 (10:30AM) -- Did you know there's another Asian baller leading his team to a great season? It's Filipino point guard JR Buensuceso (13.0 ppg, 3.7 apg) for BYU-Hawaii tonight at 730p against Academy of Art College at Kezar Pavilion here in SF. Oh yeah, they have a Taiwanese shooting guard who I saw play last year. I thought he was the best player on the floor that night. Lo and behold, he's leading BYU-H in scoring this year at 18.6 ppg. His name: Jet Chang! You heard it here first!

Building the schedule for 3/7

THU 3/4 (11:45AM) -- Keep checking the SCHEDULE page from here on out for continual updates on 3/7... (9:00AM) -- See SCHEDULE page (link above). These teams prevent me from doing my job

WED 3/3 (12:30PM) -- It is very difficult for me to start scheduling because these teams, many of them longtime dreamleague teams, have not given me an update nor have they expressed consistent, reliable intention of actually paying. Emails go unanswered. WTF?

So what am I supposed to do? Some of these teams, we need them in our divisions to make the divisions better. They know that. I know that. But it should be common courtesy to let me know what is going on. So if I schedule them, and they back out, then I'm f___ed. If I don't schedule them, maybe even leave them out, then they bitch and whine, "Why didn't you schedule us, I told you we would put in a team?" I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't. THAT'S F___ED UP, GUYS.

6FT-SFP Tropics -- not really a surprise here (capt's on my team, so I'll strangle him)
A/R-OAK Team Starz -- again, not a surprise (whiniest of the bunch)
A/R-OAK The Agents -- not a surprise (will pay remainder at 1st game)
A/R-SJ SJ Jollybee -- this is a surprise (Google Checkout error)
AAA-O Big Gamerz -- $185 of $200, not a surprise, slow payers (finally)
AAA-SFP Underdawgz (SF) -- this is a surprise
AL Problems -- this is a surprise, although they usually pay slow
AL-Open Blazers -- paid installment, but Google declined it (fixed)
N.L. East Bay Cardinals -- a huge surprise

Looking for 3 more on SF AAA-Open team

WED 3/3 (11:15AM) -- The Free Agent AAA-Open team, which looks to be a pretty good team this season despite being free agents, has 5 and is looking for 3 more players. Base cost is the same as any other team $500 franchise fees divided by 8 = $62.50 per player, then rotate the $25 cash each week for the first 8 weeks, figure the rest out later if the team goes deep into the playoffs. So that's basically $87.50 and maybe $3+ per playoff game won after that. If anyone wants to double-dip on an "okay" team, please let me know asap.

Vote for your fellow Asian baller

TUE 3/2 (11:45PM) -- It's not often that an Asian baller gets considered for the same award as John Wall, so let's vote for one of our brothers, Jeremy Lin. After all, this is an Asian-American league, is it not? Also, c'mon, I know that Wall is the best player and should win this award, but Wall doesn't need anybody's online vote. Unless the Cousy Award committee is straight dumb, Wall is winning it regardless of whomever wins the popular online vote (as he should), so show your support for a fellow Asian baller Jeremy Lin...cuz that's what this is really about:

http://cousyaward.com/vote.php

Btw, you can vote with any email address, once per 24 hours per email address. From what people tell me, you can literally put any bogus email address in there, but there's also some rumblings about not having too many votes from the same IP address (who knows?). I just think that if everyone in Dream League voted once per day for the next three days, when voting ends, Jeremy would probably catch up a little from 3rd place. more links...

Roadmaps and uniforms underway

TUE 3/2 (3:00PM) -- Making steady progress on the unis, see UNIFORMS link above. Will start season roadmaps tonight! Also, good news on the SF (AAA-Open) and SJ (A/R-SJ) free agents teams. They will happen.

How not to ask for something

TUE 3/2 (1:15PM) -- Look, if there's something wrong with your gym like the floor is slippery, just let me know. I mean, I play too, and I wouldn't want a slippery gym floor either. But when you ask it like this, you do not show appreciation for how hard my job is in trying to deal with these gym directors who basically run their own kingdom at the gym, okay? So next time, just ask as if I already feel your pain, because I do.

As I have said time and time again, we are in this together. No need to antagonize me, which stresses me out and prevents me from getting back to the other 100 people who have emailed me with a question...
I'm emailing with a concert [sic] I have. We had our game yesterday at Piedmont and its simply not fun and safe when the courts are just plain dusty.

[NO NEED TO TELL ME THAT IT'S NOT FUN AND SAFE TO PLAY ON A DUSTY COURT. DUH. I KNOW THAT.]

layers [sic] on both teams were sliding around like it were ice (not literally) but you get the point. The ref said I can mop it up and I did but it didn't help much because we don't have enough time between periods or during half time to get a wet mop out. I mean we pay good money to play in this league and pay year ref each game.

[PLEASE DO NOT MAKE REFERENCES TO "WE PAY GOOD MONEY". IT REALLY IS NOT AS MUCH MONEY AS YOU SHOULD BE PAYING BECAUSE *I* GOT YOU A DISCOUNT BECAUSE WE HAVE SO MANY TEAMS. YOU SHOULD BE PAYING MORE FOR THE LEVEL OF COMP AND NBA RULES THAT WE GIVE YOU. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME, START UP YOUR OWN LEAGUE AND WE'LL SEE HOW MUCH YOU WILL END UP CHARGING FOR IT.]

There is also a score keeper but it would be nice for the people that are getting paid to be at the games to sweep the floors.

[SCOREKEEPERS ARE PAID TO SCOREKEEP. THEY ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO WIPE THE FLOOR. THAT IS JUST THE WAY IT IS. PLEASE, LET'S NOT HAVE YOU TELL ME HOW TO RUN MY BUSINESS. THE ACTUAL SOLUTION IS FOR THE GYM DIRECTOR TO CHARGE MORE FOR A MOPPED FLOOR, WHICH I WOULD THEN HAVE TO NEGOTIATE ON YOUR BEHALF.]

The game isn't as fun when your sliding everywhere. Can you do something about this? If we pay to play, its not our responsibility to mop the floors.

[DUH!]

Let me know what you can do about this concern. Thank you

[I'M DOING THE BEST I CAN. I TOLD THE GYM DIRECTOR, THE GYM DIRECTOR SAID YEAH, IT WAS PROBABLY TOO SLIPPERY. I ASKED HIM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. HE SAID YEAH, BUT HE CAN'T BE THERE THE WHOLE TIME, SO HE'LL LEAVE THE MOP. WHAT ELSE AM I SUPPOSED TO TELL THE KING?]
Hope you all get what I mean. If you don't let me know. The situations that I as commish have to deal with are not really rocket science. It is simply about the delicate relationships between gym director (top of food chain), me, players and teams, refs, and scorekeepers, all working in concert together. Like when a ref blows a call. No need to tell him, "Hey we pay good money for you, ref it better." Nah man, that's not how you ask for something. Treat your peers with respect, okay? It's not like your team/player is bigger than anybody else, although when push comes to shove, like I said, the gym director is ultimately the king.

Teams at risk of being skipped over for 3/7

TUE 3/2 (12:00PM) -- The following teams are by definition on the installment plan (extra $100 all told for me having to send out reminders every week), since they have not paid 100% of the franchise fees, and therefore are at risk of being skipped over for 3/7 scheduling (starts tonight). The deadline to pay each installment is Tuesday midnight, per the Signup page...

The U
Bomb Squad
Tropics
Dime Piece
In It To Win It
HVY RSNL*
The Agents
SJ Jollybee
Underdawgz (SF)
Blazers
Hyphy*
Team Go
FIC DevilBats

To pay the next installment (typically $100 per week, plus $55 for SJ teams after the last $100), goto the DONATE page, which is linked in the lefthand navigation panel, GREEN section.

* - Has not played first game yet, so their first installment deadline will be next Tuesday.

MON 3/1 (9:30PM) -- In case you didn't know, you can either get scores on the SCORES link above or signup for Twitter and get realtime score updates (well, as close to realtime as we can do it) on your cellphone. Just follow us and activate the cellphone option in your Twitter account:

Last few registrations being finalized

MON 3/1 (3:15PM) -- There is only one thing that has a higher priority for me today than helping teams get further along the uniform ordering process. And that is verification of the last few teams that have registered and paid, so that I can start locking teams into their respective divisions (if you played this past Sun 2/28, then you are by definition locked). I hope to stay up real late and just finish out the last revision of the Rumor Mill, based on these registrations.

By Tuesday midday, with all uniform ordering stuff updated and set along their merry ways, I hope to be building all of the division roadmaps and, basically, not looking back. At that point, everyone will know who they play every week. We will even have fairly accurate predictions of when the season will end, although anything can happen with gym closures or unexpected playoff developments.

Post all scheduling questions on M.S.R. page

MON 3/1 (1:45PM) -- Because many of you are starting to clutter my email inbox, which is preventing me from finishing up all the uniform requests, which becomes a detriment to those teams who have ordered uniforms, and the fact that many of these questions are a bit obvious IF YOU READ THE WEBSITE AND KNOW HOW THINGS ARE RUN, I will no longer be accepting scheduling questions by email. If you ask me a scheduling question by email, I WILL DELETE IT AS IF I NEVER GOT IT.

You must ask your question on the Make Special Request page (link above). That is much easier for me and, it follows, much easier for everyone else.

How do you know if you have a scheduling question? Easy. Ask it to yourself. Example: I'm a free agent and I'm wondering if I can play on a team. No, this is not a *scheduling* question. This is a registration question. You can email me about that.

Example: What times are our games going to be? Will we have a bye? Are we taking Easter off? Obviously, these are scheduling questions. You now know what to do.

Sorry for being an arse, but basically I am fed up with all the questions that are already answered somewhere on this Season site. It is truly amazing how many times I have answered the same question. There are only so many links about the league (Signup, FAQ, Rumor Mill) that you can click pertaining to your schedule. Read them. Please. Now, I will *attempt* to get back to the teams patiently waiting for their uniforms.

Don't forget your $25 cash ref fees

FRI 2/26 (11:00AM) -- Remember, your team must bring $25 cash to every game. Give it to one of the refs before your tipoff.

Tipoffs for 2/28 almost ready

FRI 2/26 (2:00AM) -- Not quite there yet, but really close. You can take a glimpse of what's in store on the SCHEDULE page. The link is now available above. Assuming the gym directors don't pull the rug from under me, I should have final tipoffs posted by 12pm.

Latest revision, scheduling for 2/28 begins

THU 2/25 (5:45PM) -- 5pm came and went. Now I have to goto other commitments until 11pm. Unfortunately, you'll just have to wait until late night for the next update. Sorry. Always happens first week because people don't pay, change their tipoffs, this and that. It will settle down as we go... (3:15PM) -- Done with the special requests. Now down scheduling, stopped at REC. Got a few errands to run, 5pm target still in my sights... (2:15PM) -- Currently checking all the requests posted on the Make Special Request Page, as I build the 2/28 schedule; you'll see my reply posts to your requests right on that page. Btw if eventually I do not fulfill your special request, email me back and I will refund your payment.

THU 2/25 (9:00AM) -- I now have a general idea of how things will look for 2/28, although I haven't factored in the Make Special Request page yet. Check the Rumor Mill page for the latest.

6FT + Ideally looking for one more A/R-SJ team

THU 2/25 (8:30AM) -- We're real close to finishing and scheduling, folks! That being said, I don't think I'll be able to post the 2/28 schedule until at least 5pm tonight. Meanwhile, we're looking for one more A/R-SJ team. More info (DISCOUNT too!)...

Ensure your team info is correct for 2/28

WED 2/24 (3:15PM) -- Rumor Mill PAID column updated. Check it... (8:30AM) -- Scheduling for 2/28 will occur within hours. To be scheduled, you definitely have to be listed on the Rumor Mill page and paid. Please refer to the Rumor Mill page. Also, read the posts below when you get a chance.

Every team must be able to play at 3pm

WED 2/24 (12:15PM) -- Now that I've received two straight emails about this, I better post it. As you check your season tipoff timeframes on the Rumor Mill, you must realize that 3pm is not only the mathematical midpoint between the 6-hour window of teams wanting early games vs late games, but that I'm not going to kill myself trying to fit you in early at 2pm or late at 4pm. I've been doing a 100+ team league now for 2 years and I already know that very restricted timeframes lead to stress, which leads me to being kinda pissy, which leads me to what you would call in your shoes, poor "customer service".

Incidentally, I believe I have posted the magic 3pm tipoff somewhere in the FAQs or Signup page, which means you guys ought to be reading all that (as I've said many times before). In conclusion, if you cannot field a team consistently at 3pm, this is not the league for you. I will gladly refund you and spare us the grief. Trust me, if you can't play at 3pm, there will be stress. I would rather avoid it entirely in the first place.

What's going on with each division

Protests and league rules violations

TUE 2/23 (11:30AM) -- The following epitomizes the need to make blatantly clear that we here at Dream League are out to find a safe haven for competitive basketball (as stated on the RULES & REGULATIONS page. Now, I'm not trying to make fun of or put the captain who wrote me this up on public display, so I will not reveal who said this, but I think it is good that he brought it up, so that you all can understand me better on how I run things here. Plus, there's the flip-side to this... More info

What if I play on two teams?

MON 2/22 (11:30PM) -- If you play on two teams or if you're a captain and one or some of your players play on two teams, you must put these overlaps on the Make Special Request page. Otherwise, the player would be at risk of being overlapped in my weekly scheduling.

How to change your team information

MON 2/22 (10:45PM) -- I'm just getting inundated with this small change or that small change. Folks, I absolutely need you to make changes to your tipoff time, roster change, division/level change, or whatever tidbit that should've been right in the first place on the REGISTRATION page, by re-registering on the REGISTRATION page.

Because the season has not started, it is easier for me to go into our massive, clunky (but free) Salesforce database and overwrite your previous info with the new one. Once the season starts, it will be easier for me to make changes on the Make Special Request page, but only when the season has already started and I have essentially stopped taking registrations.

Again, please conform to my demands :-) ...It streamlines the setup process and right now, I really, really, really, really need to focus on re-organizing all the payments+signups and scheduling 2/28, guys. Thank you and sorry for being pissy, but I can already start to feel the pressure of scheduling 125 teams for this Sun 2/28 in the next 48 hours.

Google Checkout receipt = I got it (unless...)

MON 2/22 (7:00PM) -- Pet Peeve #1,235,731: If you just paid and you got a Google Checkout receipt, there is no need to email me saying, "Did you get my payment?" The receipt proves I got it. Now, under unusual circumstances such as not enough funds on your card or what have you, Google Checkout will alert me to say that your payment is pending or got declined (temporarily). At that point, you'll get an email from Google Checkout instructing you what to do to fix it. I will also chime in by email to say that your payment did not go through. Then, you need to work like mad to get that payment cleared, otherwise your team could get passed up.

Getting left behind although you paid

MON 2/22 (6:30PM) -- Until someone shows me some registration technology that works better/faster/cheaper than the crappy way I got right now, unfortunately we are stuck with what we are stuck with. And that means READING this website and following all instructions. For me, that means collecting information from one source (registrations) and reconciling with the other source (Google Checkout), or vice-versa.

Some of you have paid but have not submitted a REGISTRATION page. When one piece of info is there and the other is not, then a cascade of errors can follow. For example, you could've paid but because you didn't register, I didn't really know you had a team and maybe I got a bout of dyslexia while reading your row of payment in Google Checkout. Therefore, you don't get scheduled for a game on 2/28. Then you're one game behind and the only way I can catch you up is to force you into a doubleheader starting the week after.

I hope that explains why I'm anal about all this. You're taking a risk if you don't follow my instructions.

Rumor Mill first draft

MON 2/22 (3:15PM) -- Finally! Click on Rumor Mill link above. More to follow. Email me if there's any errors. And be sure to pay for your team. That's my next task.

Looking for free agents or double-dippers

MON 2/22 (12:00PM) -- I'll probably dedicate an entire page to the free agents real soon, but for now, we do have free agent lists being built. Please email ken(at)dreamleague(dot)org if you're interested. Also, if you're a team looking for a free agent.

Incidentally, Wylie Yuen of the 6FT-OAK DreamCrushers franchise is looking for a guard. So if you're a free agent or someone already on a team but doesn't mind playing on a 2nd team, please email me and I'll forward you to Wylie. Also, if you're a team like Wylie looking to round out your roster, email me and I can post your needs here as well.

Is it too late to register my team?

MON 2/22 (11:30AM) -- Not as of this writing, so go ahead and follow the instructions on the Signup page (link above). However, I've laser-focused on getting the divisions setup, and the deadline has already passed, so if you are serious about joining our league, you need to get onboard before the train leaves. Everyone else is already onboard, waiting for the engines to rev up. If we leave without you, then so be it.

If the train's wheels are in motion and you still want to hop onboard, you may need to do a doubleheader to catchup, or pay a $25 penalty for my time in integrating you into the league, who knows. It just depends on how much of a pain it will be to add you. But we can't add you unless you follow the proper steps in registering. And if you have any special questions about registering, I won't have time to answer them because, as I said, I'm busy revving the engines up.

Sorry if I sound whiny, but 100+ other teams got their stuff together before the deadline and thank you to those teams who did, because this is a group effort in accounting for everyone. Overall, I am excited to get the season going this Sun 2/28.

Special Requests for 2/28

MON 2/22 (11:45AM) -- The Make Special Request page for requesting more constrained times than your usual 6-hour season timeframe is now online (see link above). It is a simple copy/paste from last season, so in the interests of time I haven't updated any verbiage for this season. Just do what the instructions tell you. Remember, it's $5 per special request because it adds more work for me each week in scheduling.

MON 2/22 (9:00AM) -- Rumor Mill core dump of teams paid also updated thru now.

MON 2/22 (9:00AM) -- If you played last season, you know that if you had a special request for the upcoming week, meaning if you had some kind of tipoff timeframe request that was more constrained than the week-by-week 6-hour-plus timeframe you gave in the REGISTRATION page, you had to pay $5 and submit on a "Make Special Request" page.

That page will go up later today, if all goes according to plan. Please wait until that page goes up to make special requests more constrained or different than your regularly stated tipoff timeframe. Thanks.

How to send a question to the Commish

MON 2/22 (1:00AM) -- First, I should only be getting emails from captains, for obvious reasons -- I need one single point of contact per team, please. Second, every email I get should have your name, your team name, your division, and your location. You have no idea how helpful that is. Seems obvious considering we have 100+ teams and of course no human being can possibly memorize all of their info, but often times, this basic information is left out of your communication.

Some of you are not reading this website

MON 2/22 (1:00AM) -- Thanks to those of you who are doing as much as they can to follow along and read the procedures on this website. However, some of you are really kind of hindering my progress here by asking questions that are quite clearly written on either this page, the Signup page, the Calendar page, etc. etc. (all the links are above).

I will be spending the next 48 hours compiling all the payments and matching them up with the registrations. In short, it is a bitch and takes a long time to complete. In the meantime, I will just have to refuse to answer any questions that you have that are already answered here. Otherwise, I am impeding the progress that the other teams are expecting.

By Wednesday, I should have a good idea on what I need to schedule, division by division and location by location. If there are any issues such as not having enough teams in any division, I will address them as I go, and hopefully with as quick responses as I can get from the captains involved.

Keep checking these pages for updates and please try to find the answers to your questions here, or in previous posts. If you can't find it, then email me, state that you couldn't find it, and expect to wait until Wed-Thu for an answer.

Next steps before next Sun 2/28

SUN 2/21 (11:00AM) -- Continue to check the Rumor Mill page for updates... THU 2/18 (12:30PM) -- List of paid teams has been moved to the Rumor Mill page.

WED 2/17 (11:00AM) -- So you can see my latest posts below. There don't appear to be enough teams to start this Sun 2/21. Which brings us to next Sun 2/28 and obviously it says you need to pay your franchise fees by this Sun 2/21. In the meantime, I'll be working on two things (until next Monday when things get real busy double-checking registrations and payments): (1) uniform orders, and (2) constructing the Rumor Mill page so people know how their teams look relative to their peers.

Uniforms

MON 2/22 (11:45AM) -- I have moved all the posts pertaining to uniforms to the Uniforms page (link above).

Reminder: Payment Deadline this Sun 2/21

TUE 2/16 (1:00PM) -- Please be reminded that even though it looks like we'll have no games this Sun 2/21 (see post below), to start on Sun 2/28, you must have paid your franchise fees (or the first installment if you are on the installment plan, i.e., $200), for me to schedule you in for 2/28.

Don't miss the train!

WED 2/17 (12:30AM) -- Here's the latest and greatest list of teams paid, and when they wanna start...

(listed moved to Rumor Mill page)

Free Warriors vs Hawks tickets

SAT 2/20 (8:00AM) -- Friend us at http://facebook.com/dreamleague if you want a chance to win free Warriors tix for tomorrow's Warriors vs Hawks game (upper level tickets, pairs).

Teams signed up and ready to go

TUE 2/16 (1:00PM) -- Well, it doesn't look like we'll be having any games this Sun 2/21. Take a look at the list below of paid teams. Most want to start on 2/28, but the ones that want to start on 2/21, there aren't even two teams from the same division, let alone the same area. And there's three paid teams that don't have anymore info. Next step: Updating the Rumor Mill page (got tons of emails from last season's captains giving status) with new registrations (also tons, but a lot of them not paid yet).

TUE 2/16 (9:00AM) -- Still working on it. Lots of data to combine along with all the captains last season indicating whether or not their team is coming back. Three more payments since yesterday, update listed below. Again, you figure out every Thu what time you are playing Sun anyways, so I'm still on track.

MON 2/15 (12:45PM) -- Here's the ongoing list of teams paid and ready to go. I have yet to check the REGISTRATION database to ensure that they have stated a 2/21 (not 2/28) start date, as well as the division and location. This is just a dump from our Google Checkout account. We're doing this via baby steps. Those listed as PAYMENT DECLINED, obviously we cannot accept as "paid" until that problem is resolved by you and Google. Also, read the post below this...

MON 2/15 (12:30PM) -- Today, I will begin posting all the teams that are signed up, paid, and ready to go for this Sun 2/21. However, please be reminded that there needs to be enough teams in your division to play against for you to start. Starting this Sun 2/21 means you are starting "early" and *maybe* affords you the possibility of a bye later in the regular season (click on the Calendar link above).

Please be patient. Some of you will have questions that I will not be able to get to until later this week. If you haven't paid by then and your question needs to come before your payment then unfortunately you will just have to wait; you will probably not be starting this Sun 2/21. Others will have questions that are already answered on the Signup page or the FAQs in the links above. So please read thoroughly.

THU 2/11 (1:30PM) -- Just so you know, if you have a quick-hit question, usually I'm able to answer it by email. If you have a question that is rather involved, I won't have the bandwidth to answer it, so I would pass it onto our league helpers like Ken and RJ. But email me directly and I'll see what I can do with it.

WED 2/10 (9:00PM) -- Again, click to Signup link above to join the league, which will start on 2/21.

Here are the teams that have paid. I will check their REGISTRATION submissions, but because they have paid their franchise fees already, they are by definition ready to go for 2/21 if they want to, and assuming there are enough teams to play against (details to be double-checked in the REGISTRATION database soon)...

Bao Le
Chung Chu
Ryan Dacumos
Mark Kyung Lee -- START 2/28
Sho Yamazaki - All Out - AAA E
THONGSOUK KEOLA

For the teams from last season, I'm finally done refunding those teams that needed to be refunded the forfeit bond. Next up is working with the handful of teams that needed to be pro-rated due to unforeseen circumstances.

An email will go out shortly to remind teams that they must be fully paid by this Sun 2/14 in order to start on 2/21. I will solicit status updates from potential returning and non-returning teams. At that point, I will update the Rumor Mill page, which is long overdue but is best if we wait for the info from last season's teams. Sorry again for any delays.

Update (or lack thereof!) on registrations

MON 2/8 (11:00AM) -- I probably won't get to the first "sweep" of the registrations and payments until tomorrow. At that time, I am going to post new registrations on the Rumor Mill page (link above), which you can see right now has not been updated since last season.

Meanwhile, please check out the FAQ links above. It will help new teams and captains understand how we do things in Dream League. Also, please understand there is only so much one human being (me) can do in a day. If you sent me a question by email, you are actually better off trying to read everything you can about the league in the above links. And I will likely not get to your email until after I finished everything else on my plate.

Rest assured, your payment is safe with Google Checkout (I'm not sure, but I think it even still allows you to cancel your payment). After you have paid and registered, simply wait to see your team name on the Rumor Mill page (list of teams). Then you just need to wait until 3 days before your scheduled start date of 2/21 or 2/28 to know what time and where to show up with your teammates to play -- assuming you entered all the info in the REGISTRATION correctly, such as your minimum 6-hour tipoff timeframe. Thanks for your patience.

FRI 2/5 (8:30AM) -- I'll be making my first sweep of the REGISTRATION database on Monday, but please be reminded, you're not officially "in" the league until you have paid the franchise fees. Again, to signup, simply click on the "Signup" link above.

How to Signup

THU 1/28 (11:45PM) -- The Signup and Calendar pages are now up. The Rumor Mill page references the old Rumor Mill, which has helpful information. Please use the links above.

WED 1/27 (11:15AM) -- Welcome to the Season Homepage for 2010 Winter-Spring. This is the homepage for all 10+ divisions this season. This is your hub to the season. You should always check this page first before going off to any other portion of this season.

We will be posting the Signup page shortly, followed by the Season Calendar page, followed by the Rumor Mill page.

Be on billboards in the Bay Area!

THU 1/28 (8:00AM) -- SF Hep B Free is doing an ad campaign and wants to put a basketball team on billboards across the Bay Area. Not a joke. Pretty cool.

Email me if you are interested. From a pool of 15-20, they will select 10 people. You will wear Dream League unis. You'll need to submit your photo like a real casting call and everything.

Photo shoot is Sat Feb 6th in the morning somewhere in SF, so you would have to be able to attend that.

I'll probably just take the first 15-20 that respond and can commit to submitting a photo and doing Feb 6th. Lemme know!
