N.L. Playoff Brackets
N.L. playoff brackets posted

TUE 4/28 (11:45AM) -- See the playoff brackets in the link in the righthand table. Please use that as your guide from now on, as the bracket shows dates. Do not use the old roadmap anymore for immediate next round scheduling, as that roadmap is too much of a pain to update.

N.L. standings thru 4/5

EasternWLPCTGB
Game Time710.875--
East Bay Cardinals530.6252.0
The Yay530.6252.0
Money Tree Prodigies530.6252.0
Wildcatz440.5003.0
JoJo And The Juniors150.1675.0
Bomb Squad NL080.0007.0
WED 4/8 (9:30AM) -- Updated thru 4/5. Playoffs won't start till 4/26, so let's not worry too much about it right now. Not sure of long-term status of Bomb Squad. JJJ may be back for playoffs.

WED 4/1 (2:15AM) -- I think I might just pull JJJ out of the league. The problem has been the "JJ" of "JJJ" who has not been able to play ever since he moved back to Stockton. In the 3rd "J", we got lucky with the addition of one guy, but two other guys are usually out of town in Sac and Chico. And only one of them can make it back this weekend, so it's a depleted team again.

I'll put Bomb Squad vs Yay instead. Let's hope Bomb Squad is having better luck. So it's looking like we're back to 6 N.L. teams. Sorry, I gave it a shot. In fact, the team looked really good with a 1-pt loss to the EBC, but after that it's been a nightmare with this expansion team.

TUE 3/31 (12:45AM) -- One more block of games to go based on standings. Scores from 3/29...

N.L.: EBC 2, Bomb Squad 0 (FFT)
N.L.: Game Time 78, MTP 63
N.L.: Wildcatz 76, the yay 63

So now, Catz, EBC and Yay are tied at 4-3. The tiebreaker is head-to-head results, which yield this...

N.L.: Wildcatz 60, EBC 59 (OT)
N.L.: the yay 60, wildcatz 53
N.L.: EB Cards 70, Yay 67
N.L.: Wildcatz 76, the yay 63
Catz 2-1
EBC 1-1
Yay 1-2

Therefore, Catz is above EBC which is above Yay. And there you have your matchups, based on standings and avoiding 3/29 repeats, for 4/5...

repeat2: Game Time at Wildcatz
repeat2: East Bay Cardinals at Money Tree Prodigies
repeat2: JoJo And The Juniors at The Yay
repeat2: bye: Bomb Squad NL
repeat2: JoJo And The Juniors at Bomb Squad

Good happenstance news for 4/5 is that we might have the games at nice OCHS as long as they are all after 6p, since the gym dir there is out all day and felt bad he was leaving me with almost nothing there. Bad news is, it's usually hard to get scorekeepers at night.

Obviously JJJ has a DH, albeit non-playoff-impacting. Maybe this expansion team will have enough guys this go-round, although playoffs is of course more important.

Speaking of playoffs, the Wildcatz were the only team to respond to the email about possibly playing on 4/12 Easter, and they want it off. The Wildcatz cannot mathematically finish with the #1 seed and the #1 seed has a bye in the 1st round. Does this matter? Who knows, it's complicated. Check it out.

The LA Showcase is 4/19 and there are many N.L. players in that (cool, will be nice to see y'all down there), so there may be some wiggle room as to playing your 1st round playoff game on 4/12, 4/19, or 4/26, so long as you know that at least the Catz can't play on 4/12 so they'd have to play their 1st rounder on 4/19 or 4/26. Also, the #1 seed enters in the 2nd round.

We'll just play this by ear and week-by-week. I'll just send out an email to all N.L. captains asking for a quick reply on options, based on the seeds and matchups for that Sunday.

Incidentally, Game Time beat Money Tree but Money Tree beat Game Time, so the #1 seed is still up for grabs and could be decided by tiebreakers, but Game Time is in control of its destiny. And mathematically we could have a 4-way tie at 5-3 to end the regular season. Furthermore, I need to ask Bomb Squad what's up cuz they've now forfeited twice.

TUE 3/24 (8:00AM) -- No recaps for the time being, but here are the final scores from 3/22...

N.L.: Game Time 67, Bomb Squad 54
N.L.: money tree 74, wildcatz 59
N.L.: Yay 84, JJJ 51

...and, referring to the updated roadmap below, here are the matchups for 3/29...

repeat1: Game Time at Money Tree Prodigies
repeat1: Wildcatz at The Yay
repeat1: Bomb Squad NL at East Bay Cardinals
repeat1: bye: JoJo And The Juniors

...The standings were wrong last week, even though nobody said anything. I had one less loss for the Cards and one more loss for the Wildcatz, which I just fixed. So both teams are 3-3 but Wildcatz are technically ahead in the standings due to the 60-59 head-to-head overtime win over the EB Cards. Unfortunately for the Catz, that means they will first try to clinch double-elim playoff status against the tougher Yay than Bomb Squad (which draws the EBC).

Also, I volunteered JJJ to get the doubleheader on 3/29 and since Bomb Squad can finish no higher than 6th, you can see on the roadmap that I've pinned "7th place" to JJJ and "6th place" to Bomb Squad in the matchups, even though JJJ is currently ahead of Bomb in the standings. Under normal circumstances I probably would've forced the 1st-place team to take the doubleheader.

MON 3/9 (6:45PM) -- Notes from 3/8 and onward...

N.L.: East Bay Cards 79, JJJ 77 -- EBC got out to a strong start as JJJ leader JoJo Pierce didn't show up until the 2nd quarter. When he got in, JJJ took the lead. Karl Gusner was a DNP and Ross Lim also showed late mid-1st quarter, but the outside shooting was made up for by EBC's Nick Mali. At the end, JJJ was tied with the ball and about 5 seconds left when Mike Salamin turned the ball over attempting to make a move the hoop. Dennis Garcia got the go-ahead bucket for EBC. Salamin again tried the hero trey at the buzzer but missed. The win reinstated EBC as a team to watch out for after starting a subpar 2-2. The close loss gives hope for JJJ. Pierce had been absent two straight games while moving and the remainder of the team is just trying to get to know each other. JJJ is 0-3 but can build on this performance.

N.L.: MTP 60, Game Time 52 -- No recap for you, but the win clinched double-elim status for the defending champion MoneyTree. I might add that Game Time has made two off-season free agent acquisitions even though it's 2009 and not 2010, with the signing of power forward Mike Lee and strong point Taraz Lee to multi-year contracts. Terms were not disclosed but the deals definitely put Game Time over the salary cap into luxury tax threshold which unfortunately is make-believe and therefore does not actually translate into millions for Commish Rich. Anyhow back to reality, Game Time probably needed that slap in the face from MTP, but stands in a good position already at 3-1 to clinch double-elim playoff status. The same could not be said the last two seasons in the absence and semi-retirement of Mike Kraus, who no longer plays in the league.

N.L.: the yay 60, wildcatz 53 -- No recap for you, but The Yay inched closer to double-elim playoff status. The Catz, with the defection of Taraz and the departure of Mike Reding to SoCal, are still trying to find the right formula, but they're on the right track with solid guards like Alvin Lin and Ross Hiroshima. Maybe all they need is consistent inside play. Some teammates of Lin and Ross's from AL-O BA Blazers could serve as a quasi-farm system for the Catz.

Next up on 3/15:
JoJo And The Juniors at Bomb Squad NL -- One of these cellar dwellers will clinch SINGLE-elimination status for the playoffs with a loss. JJJ will have players doing double duty in the Hayward tournament. It's a coin flip here.

East Bay Cardinals at Wildcatz -- Huge game for both teams. I'd say with the momentum, EBC maybe is a 2-point favorite in Vegas right now.

Game Time at The Yay -- Another huge barometer for both teams. Interesting the complete contrast in styles: Yay with energy plus run-n-gun and Game Time with steady-as-she-goes. Hope I can see this one. Probably won't.

bye: Money Tree Prodigies

TUE 3/3 (12:15PM) -- Here are the latest standings. Any errors, lemme know cuz I used our twitter feed. I will discuss developments I've been seeing in this division by the end of the week.

TUE 3/24 (8:00AM) -- Determined 3/22 matchups.

BYES: If you have a bye later in
the season that is not a formally
requested bye, due to gym
fluctuations and other unforeseen
circumstances, that bye is not
locked down
; that week's block
of games can still be shuffled
around as necessary until you
formally request that week to be
a bye for your team.

GROUND RULES:
1. Please make sure the number of
red rows (games moved from) equals
the number of green rows (games
moved to).
2. Make sure you have 6 regular
season games listed with your
team name.
3. The last 2 of 8 regular season
games are usually encoded as inter-
conference or other special type of
matchup.
4. The playoffs are pretty much
nailed down, barring unforeseen
circumstances (i.e., no byes!)
5. Any special late bye requests at
this point will require permission
from other teams to shuffle them
around.
6. Special late bye requests can
*usually* be accommodated if your
team plays a double-header some
other week.
