AAA-REC Playoff Brackets
AAA-REC playoffs set!

MON 4/13 (10:00PM) -- Here are the playoff seedings and tiebreakers used. First off, only 5 of the 13 AAA-REC teams finished below .500, so there's not enough teams to split the AAA-REC playoffs into separate Upper and Lower brackets. So it's 13 teams in one bracket, with those finishing .500 or better having double-elim status...

1. Prodigy A/R (7-1) -- best record
2. Underdawgz A/R (6-2) -- no head-to-head vs Drm, 2-1 common opp vs Drm (Pdgy/Rice), no head-to-head vs OakF, 2-1 common opp vs OakF (AGS/Pdgy)
3. Dream (6-2) -- no head-to-head vs UDAR, 1-1 common opp vs UDAR (Pdgy/Rice), won Eastern Conference
4. Oakland's Finest (6-2) -- 2-0 head-to-head vs Chop, no head-to-head vs UDAR, 1-1 common opp vs UDAR, lost head-to-head vs Drm
5. Chopsticks (6-2) -- 0-2 head-to-head vs OakF (cannot finish higher than OakF)
6. Wolverines AAA (5-3) -- no head-to-head vs AGS, 2-1 common opp vs AGS (UDAR/Chop/Drgs)
7. Any Given Sunday (5-3) -- no head-to-head vs AGS, 1-2 common opp vs WlvA (UDAR/Chop/Drgs)
8. Beast Mode (4-4)
9. New Hope (2-6) -- won head-to-head vs Rice
10. Sticky Rice (2-6) -- lost head-to-head vs Hope, won head-to-head vs Drgs
11. Dragons (2-6) -- lost head-to-head vs Rice (cannot finish higher than Rice)
12. Shohoku (1-7)
13. Smokey (0-8)

Please see the playoff bracket link in the righthand table.

MON 4/13 (9:30PM) -- Final regular season standings based on the last regular season game played on 4/12. See playoff bracket link in righthand table and article describing playoffs, also updated roadmap, for more.

WED 4/8 (10:30AM) -- Only one more regular season game to go on 4/12 and I will be able to do playoff seedings.

WED 4/1 (1:00AM) -- Assuming I have enough gym space in SF, with the AAU tourneys at both of our early Oakland sites, it's random luck that we have OAK at SF matchups this week. We will proceed per the roadmap below, as follows for 4/5 (these are based on standings)...

inter-e/p: Dream at Prodigy A/R
inter-e/p: Sticky Rice at Underdawgz A/R
inter-e/p: Dragons at Wolverines AAA
inter-e/p: Smokey at Beast Mode
byes: Shohoku, all Central Conf teams

Lucky Beast Mode! If they win vs winless Smokey, they clinch double-elim status. Looks like the Pacific might be pretty strong this season.

Don't forget, after 4/5 is done, Shohoku and Beast Mode will only have 7 regular season games played and they will play a makeup game on 4/12.

TUE 3/24 (11:15PM) -- Here are scores from 3/22...

aaa-rec: chopsticks 61, any given sunday 59 (ot)
aaa-rec: Dragons 64, Smokey 34
aaa-rec: dream 50, oak finest 40
aaa-rec: Prodigy a/r 71, shohoku 48
aaa-rec: wolverines 54, beast mode 52
aaa-rec: new hope 43, sticky rice 35

Here are matchups for 3/29, which is just another block of games in the regular season (not a special inter-conference or repeat based on standings)...

Dream (5-1) at New Hope (2-5) -- Too late for double-elim status for New Hope. Dream looks like a lock for the Eastern Conf champ, which will guarantee a top-four seed, NBA-style where there's 3 conferences but the top four are seeded by standing. There are 13 teams, so only the top 3 will avoid a doubleheader advancement in the 1st round.

Sticky Rice (2-4) at Oakland's Finest (5-2) -- Sticky Rice needs to win out to get double-elim status, while Oakland's Finest is busy trying to fend off the ChopSticks in the Central.

Smokey (0-6) at Chopsticks (5-2) -- The Chopsticks are trying to win the Central against Oakland's Finest. I haven't checked the head-to-head, but if OakF beat Chop head-to-head, then Chop needs help from Sticky Rice. Incidentally, as I write this, Smokey has less an hour to pay their 8th slot, otherwise the Chopsticks are suddenly 6-2 and we'll have 12 instead of 13 teams in the playoffs.

Dragons (2-4) at Any Given Sunday (4-3) -- The Dragons are on the brink with double-elim status. AGS probably has a mathematical shot at the Central title, unless they lost both head-to-heads to Chop and OakF.

repeat: Beast Mode (3-3) at Shohoku (0-6) -- Beast Mode has 2 chances to win 1 game to clinch double-elim status. Shohoku just needs to get one in the win column.

Underdawgz A/R (4-1) at Wolverines AAA (3-3) -- The Wolverines are trying to get double-elim status while Underdawgz are looking good. Remember they have a makeup game on 4/12 against cellar dweller Shohoku.

bye: Prodigy A/R (6-1) -- They're running away with the Pacific title, but guess what, the Underdawgz are right there too, so they can't slip up either, even with only one loss! Next week 4/5 will probably be against Dream, and that's no easy task.

TUE 3/24 (1:00PM) -- Matchups for 3/29 in roadmap below. Tiebreaks don't matter right now since it doesn't affect the matchups which are already pinned. More updates later.

TUE 3/17 (1:00PM) -- Recaps from 3/15 not up yet. No outlook beyond 3/22 yet.

TUE 3/10 (12:45PM) -- Select quasi-recaps from 3/8 and general outlooks...

aaa-rec: dream 69, chopsticks 53 -- The Chopsticks only need 1 more win to clinch double-elim playoff status. On 3/15 in inter-conference play they get Beast Mode (2-2), see roadmap below. Who knows what will happen there. On 3/22 they get Any Given Sunday (4-1), which will be a tough one. Then on 3/29 they get Smokey (0-5). 4/5 is a bye. Looks like they can almost bag the Smokey matchup, but do they want to struggle until it's all on the line? Thus, it may be a tough road coming up for the Chopsticks.

aaa-rec: oakland's finest 41, new hope 30 -- Oak's Finest has already clinched double-elim status. They'll need to keep gunning for a top-3 seed though, if you look at the first round in the roadmap (no play-in game for top-3). They've got 3/15 vs Prodigy (ooh, good one), 3/22 against Dream (another good one and a rivalry at that), and 3/22 vs Sticky Rice (who may be real hungry at that point). Meanwhile, New Hope's on the brink. Only 1 more loss else relegated with single-elim: 3/15 vs Wolverines (similar), 3/22 vs Sticky Rice (similar), and 3/29 vs Dream (similar yet again). So these remaining 3 games are against similar-standing teams. New Hope has an outside chance. It's in their hands.

aaa-rec: sticky rice 58, dragons 50 -- Sticky Rice needs 2 wins out the last 3 games to clinch double-elim status. On 3/15 they have a bye, 3/22 vs New Hope (do-able), 3/29 vs Oak's Finest (ouch!), and 4/5 vs a similar-standing team from the Pacific. Even if they lose to the mighty Oak's Finest, that means their playoffs already started against New Hope next week. Maybe they are rooting for the Wolverines to beat New Hope so New Hope no longer feels like a desperate team with their backs against the wall, always a dangerous proposition for an opponent.

aaa-rec-sf: wolverines aaa 61, shohoku 38 -- I guess when Shohoku captain Junius Ho said he was considering putting his team into REC, he wasn't kidding. One thing's for sure, Ho doesn't belong in the REC, so that's why they're here. They've already been relegated to single-elim status though. They've got 3/15 bye, 3/22 vs Prodigy (yikes), and 3/29 vs Beast Mode (do-able?), then 4/5 bye, and 4/12 makeup game vs Underdawgz (ouch) to finish out. Tough road.

For 3/15...

byes: Shohoku, all Eastern Conf teams -- As all the AAA-REC captains already know by email, and as you can see in the roadmap, I had to swap 3/29 with 3/15 so that Shoho could get a bye on 3/15. Also, Underdawgz didn't want to have 2 byes in a row. Furthermore, I decided it'd be good to give my scorekeepers who are in the Eastern Conference a bye in my absence at the Hayward tourney 3/15.

inter-c/p: Oakland's Finest (5-0) at Prodigy A/R (4-1) -- Can't wait to see who wins this one. Playoff preview perhaps?

inter-c/p: Any Given Sunday (4-1) at Underdawgz A/R (3-1) -- Another marquee matchup.

inter-c/p: Chopsticks (3-2) at Beast Mode (2-2) -- Two teams gutting it out towards their 4th win. To be decided by one possession, I bet.

inter-c/p: New Hope (1-4) at Wolverines AAA (2-2) -- Despite the Wolverines stuck at .500, if they come to play, they are dangerous. A very tough litmus test for New Hope. Star guard Pin Chou needs a big game.

AAA-REC season roadmap

WED 4/1 (1:00AM) -- Updated per 4/5 matchups based on standings.

THU 3/12 (12:15PM) -- Swapped matchups of Chop and Hope to avoid tipoff conflicts and overlaps for 3/15.

TUE 3/10 (8:00AM) -- Inserted 3/29 inter-conference into 3/15 to create Shohoku bye for 3/15 and avoid two byes in a row for Underdawgz.

TUE 2/24 (10:00AM) -- See massive changes in update list below.

FRI 2/6 (8:00AM) -- Updated since initial post 2/4. See update list righthand side.

LEGEND:
Wk = code for block of games
Date = actual date of Matchups
Code = matchups based on team #s

BYES: If you have a bye later in
the season that is not a formally
requested bye, due to gym
fluctuations and other unforeseen
circumstances, that bye is not
locked down
; that week's block
of games can still be shuffled
around as necessary until you
formally request that week to be
a bye for your team.

GROUND RULES:
1. Please make sure the number of
red rows (games moved from) equals
the number of green rows (games
moved to).
2. Make sure you have 6 regular
season games listed with your
team name.
3. The last 2 of 8 regular season
games are usually encoded as inter-
conference or other special type of
matchup.
4. The playoffs are pretty much
nailed down, barring unforeseen
circumstances (i.e., no byes!)
5. Any special late bye requests at
this point will require permission
from other teams to shuffle them
around.
6. Special late bye requests can
*usually* be accommodated if your
team plays a double-header some
other week.
