Playoff Brackets Determined!

Playoff Brackets [NEW!!!]

AUGUST 16, 2004 -- The Rayguns' loss to Play Hard combined with Shark Tank's forfeit win over Zach Carlson and Los Pachucos's upset over Leary/Lars created a four-way logjam at the bottom of the standings. Click on the STANDINGS/TEAMS link in the lefthand navigation panel to see how the tiebreakers came out. Schedule for this Sunday's playoffs on 8/22 will be posted on Thursday morning, 8/19...

AUGUST 12, 2004 -- Matchups for 8/15 have been determined. See schedule grid below...

AUGUST 5, 2004 -- The matchups for Regular Season Game #6 have been scheduled. There is still a 1% chance that the game at Potrero could be nixed due to pending approval by the gym director and recent problems with the scoreboard console being available, but at last check, we were reassured that things were ready to go.

Both Play Hard and Leary/Lars surprisingly requested a 9am tipoff, therefore we went ahead and pitted them together. Next week 8/15 should have matchups that are more dependent on the standings position.

Finally, we placed Shark Tank vs Los Pachucos at Hamilton at 10am simply because Zach and Rich's Rayguns have demonstrated showing up with jerseys with the numbers on the front and back. There will be a less-experienced scorekeeping crew at Potrero, therefore we placed Zach vs Rich over there.

JULY 29, 2004 -- Men In Action was expelled from the league due to failure of timely, adequate payments. We are now running the league somewhat in the red. To curb this problem, we are only assigning one ref per game from this point forward. There is literally not enough funds to continue otherwise. For those of you who have been asked to bring payments, please do not forget them, otherwise we have no choice but to ask you not to play.

JUNE 16, 2004 -- The season schedule is now up! Captains should check their team's schedule to ensure that there are six regular season games scheduled, by clicking on the STANDINGS/TEAMS link in the left-hand navigation panel, and clicking on your team name in the standings.

Each of the 7 teams will play once against the other 6 teams. One team will get a bye each week during this round robin phase. Then for the 7th regular season game, we will schedule the games according to the standings. Mathematically, there will be one team that does not get to play that weekend. Barring unforeseen circumstances, this will be the 7th place team. The following week for regular season game #8, the 6th place team will sit. This means that each of the top five teams will get 8 regular season games while the bottom two teams will get 7 games as we head into the playoffs.

During the playoffs, only the top four teams will get double-elimination status. This makes the final two regular season weeks crucial for teams on the fringe.

There are two scheduling issues to note. Starting July 25th, St. Mary's will close. We will thus move our games to Glen Park Rec Center. On August 15th, Potrero Hill Rec Center will become available and we will move our games there.

The second scheduling issue is that on our projected Championship date, the commish will be out of town running our Las Vegas National Tournament. So we might need to get backup help September 12th, or we might push back the Championship to 9/19. Note that the Losers Bracket team that approaches the Championship would have to play two games, so it's too much to ask of them to play three on 8/29, in case people are wondering if we can finish the league before Labor Day Weekend (we can't).
