NL Set to Start this Sunday 2/12
Here is information that was emailed to captains on Monday...
TEAMS -- There are a total of 6 teams. Read on for more info. COST -- Except for the Rayguns and Play Hard, which will be free agent teams because they are rebuilt from scratch, the standard prices from last season still apply. Basically, it's $80 per person. Add $5 to the Wildcatz for being in the more expensive San Mateo High School gym. REGULAR SEASON -- We will break the 6 teams up into 3 conferences. Each conference has only 2 teams, but it's still parallel to the NBA format. If there are 6 teams and if you play each team once, then that results in 5 games played. We'll add a 6th game which is a repeat of the matchup within your conference and we'll play those games right off the bat (as listed above), since they are intra-conference. Then we will play a 7th game which will be against a team from another conference, but based on near-final standings. PLAYOFFS -- Just like the NBA, the top teams in each conference comprise the first 3 seeds, but if a lower seed has a better record, the lower seed gets homecourt advantage. Since we are playing 1 regular season game less than the standard 8, as well as having essentially 2 free agent teams, ALL teams will receive double-elimination status going into the playoffs. In general, teams in the Winners Bracket and with better records will get homecourt advantage. The 4-round playoffs (5 if there is a repeat championship due to double-elim) are projected to start on 4/16. Therefore, championship on 5/7. HOMECOURTS -- The main constraints are that the Wildcatz and Rayguns pretty much have to be in San Mateo most, if not all, of the time. The Rayguns cannot field a team unless their games are in San Mateo. Due to gym capacity, whenever the Oakland teams Game Time and East Bay Cardinals are playing each other, they will play in Oakland. Otherwise they will play in the more-preferred NBA-sized court Potrero Hill in SF. Basically, no one really likes to play in Oakland or San Mateo, but we have certain requirements that must be met. Game Time and EB Cards will play 2 games in each city. Driven and Play Hard will play 4 in SF, 2 in San Mateo. And the Wildcatz will make one trip up to SF. Of course, when we hit the 7th and final game, homecourts will be determined as best suited to league scheduling issues. HOLIDAYS -- 2/19 is President's Day and is a league-wide bye. As of this writing, we might not have games on 3/26 because San Mateo HS is not available, although we are looking for a backup gym over there. If the playoffs get moved back for whatever reason, we have to watch out for 5/14 Mother's Day and 5/28 Memorial Day. This could set us back to June if we are not careful. Have your players plan accordingly. BYES -- There are no byes to be had in a 6-team format. If you must have a certain weekend off, please alert the commish via your captain ASAP. | Boxscore | Game Time - 58 |
