BearBall Bounce Firstrade |
| May 9, 2010 – New York, NY (DL) – If you ask the Boston Celtics to play without either KG, Ray Ray, or Paul, what do you get?
You get BearBall sans Kash Miah is what.
That’s exactly what happened on Sunday at the Richman in an opening round playoff game against Firstrade and, while they wouldn’t have been eliminated had they lost, let’s just say BB is lucky to have survived this one unscathed.
After perhaps playing to lose last Wednesday against the Good News Bears so they didn’t have to face the Villains in their playoff opener, BB played with fire in this one, going at it without their team’s leading scorer, who was off upstate, eating steak, picking up his sister from college.
Without Miah’s 20+ points, BB called on their other big two to pick up the slack and that’s exactly what they did, although it wasn’t easy.
FT made it a game, trailing by a dozen at one point, but generally stayed around within 10 to keep it within earshot.
Danny Chin opened the game up with a 3-pointer in the first 4 seconds and then followed with a 28 footer to rock FT a bit, but Andre Hu settled FT with 4 points in the 1st and from there, FT found themselves in a game.
Mike Chin worked with D Chin in the 2nd to open things up for BB, scoring 13 Chin points, but Jack Ma and Sean Zhang (8/7) started to warm up while Hao Pan hit a 3 off the bench to continue to keep things close. Two buckets apiece from Ricky Vein and Eugene Truong in the frame aided the Chins though as BB broke out to a 34-23 intermission lead.
Ma, whose motor really kicked in, spurred FT on with back to back 3’s in the 3rd on his way to 8 straight points before Jay Shih scored 5 straight to close FT’s deficit to just 43-36. All it did was awaken the Chins though as Dan (23 pts, 7 rbs, 3 assts, 2 stls) found Mike (14 pts, 6 rbs, 3 assts) right before the end of the 3rd that ended with a BB 6-1 run to run the score back up to 49-37.
It was cat and mouse like that all afternoon, only the FT cats could never quite catch the BB mice.
D-Chin dallied around for 8 4th period points and Vein (9/7) and Jae Ha Hwang controlled the glass for BB, but after Ma made 4 free-throws late, it was a two-possession 54-49 game with a minute to go.
BB salted the game away at the line to win 60-53, eliminated FT, and moved onto a next round game against the winner of New Blood/Gritty. Things went as they should have, but the feeling in the building is that BB dodged a minor bullet. | Score by Quarters | Team | Q1 | Q2 | Q3 | Q4 | OT | Total |
