Reeeallly Slow Start Ends in Great Ending in First Win for Team Biny |
| September 13, 2009 - New York, NY (DL) - Sitting by the scorer’s table watching this game, I was surprised by what was happening, the commish stopped by and asked if the score in the first quarter was actually right. One of the refs even stopped by before the start of the second quarter and questioned the actual score.
Yes, ladies and gents, the first quarter score was 5-4 in favor of Team Biny. Never have I seen a DL game start this slow. I may have spoken too soon because the game was just getting started. Both teams started to put the ball in the hoop within minutes of our amazement at the score. For Baroness, it started inside with Noh-Joon Choo (19 points, 13 rebs – almost half of their boards and 5 steals). Baroness made up for their lack of scoring and high shooting percentage by hustling and getting after every possession.
The defending AAA-Premier Champs, Team Biny was led by Chris Di, who recorded his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 boards and Carson Yiu, with 13 points. They were the only two guys doing much of any scoring.
The score in each quarter were all within one, except Team Biny won 3 out of 4 quarters and even though Team Biny shot close to 40%, the game started to get very interesting, down the wire, where the Baroness couldn’t come through on their final possession.
Being in the AAA-Premier is a little different than playing with some of the better teams in the AAA. If Team Biny wants a shot at the overall AAA championship, they better start taking care of the ball because 20 turnovers against a much better opponent will not get them a win. Their real test will come against the likes of Bearmen, Tri-State and Run & Gun.
The Baroness showed that toughness and grit can keep them in the game but they’ll need someone else other than Noh-Joon to step up if they want to win some of these close games. Maybe they can get their hands on one of those million dollar suits in the G.I. Joe movie, I mean after all, they did name their team after the Baroness, right?
