| Cardinals Get Power Surge in 3rd Quarter This Time
May 21, 2006
SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- No one could have expected Driven to have the energy to follow through with another victory against the young East Bay Cardinals, yet Driven took a 32-25 lead into halftime, thanks to 4 treys and 15 points from Carlo Lacsamana in the 2nd quarter alone.
Then Driven hit the proverbial wall. Shooting just 3-for-10 after halftime, the Cardinals, led by Ross Lim, built 43-39 lead heading into the 4th quarter.
The Cardinals stretched the lead to 54-48, thanks to two buckets by a hobbling Karl Gusner (sprained ankle) and Huy Nguyen, and never looked back. They went to the line 14 times in the 4th and made enough of them (9) to seal the deal. Lim grabbed 5 of his 9 rebounds in the final frame while Margate and Sean Caiola committed a couple too many turnovers for Driven. Lacsamana tallied two more three-pointers but couldn't get off enough more. Caiola, who scored just 9 points, was also hobbling with a sprained ankle.
Game Notes: Margate scored just 8 points on 7 attempts -- yikes...Margate finished the season averaging nearly 18 ppg on nearly 16 field goal attempts per game...Ryan Cruz only scored 8 points; he averages 13 but is more than capable of hitting 20...Driven was outrebounded by a smaller Cardinals squad, 37-26...Driven stopped the Wildcatz' Mike Reding in the previous game, yet could not contain Gusner, who finished 4-for-9 from downtown with a game-high 24 points...Nguyen finally busted out for the Cardinals for 21 points...Cards' center Andrew Lee finally had the Ben Wallace-like lead-by-example 13 rebounds we have been waiting for all season -- more than double his average. | Score by Quarters | Team | Q1 | Q2 | Q3 | Q4 | OT | Total |
