(Not pictured Aaron Javier) TUE 5/18 (1:45PM) -- Beast staved off previous champion The Usual Suspects to win their first AAA-OAK championship! Beast only had single-elimination status. I would estimate that less than 1 out of every 10 championships are won by a team relegated to single-elim status, in an otherwise quasi-double-elimination format. The Dream Crushers made a valiant run at the title, but came up short against TUS. Here's the final bracket. If Beast has a team photo, please have their captain email me and I will post it here...  Playoff brackets for AAA-OAK WED 5/12 (8:00AM) -- Due to major complications with tipoff conflicts, I may need to postpone the AAA-OAK Losers Bracket and Championship games (one-and-done) to 5/23. We'll see how this shakes out. TUE 5/11 (11:00PM) -- With single-elim status, Beast has reached the Championship game by sending DCA to the Losers Bracket. So it will be DCA vs TUS, then the winner vs Beast. The winner of that game will be the AAA-OAK champion, since Beast only has one life and either DCA or TUS would be double-elim'd at that point. As such, we know that the season will end this Sun 5/16...  TUE 5/4 (8:45AM) -- For 5/9 in the Losers Bracket, we have Colossal vs Fam, the two lowest seeds in the Losers Bracket, then the winner faces The Usual Suspects. Interestingly, I believe this was the Final Three teams for last season, and now only one of them will survive this season's playoffs (and still be stuck in the LB to boot). In the Winners Bracket, if Beast loses, they're out, so the LB could very well shift forward depending on what happens in the WB. In either case, we will have the Championship game on 5/16 and possibly a Repeat on 5/23, which will get us done before the Memorial Holiday break (and the new season). The matchups for 5/9 are obviously... p3-WB: #5 Beast at #2 Dream Crushers AAA p3a-LB: #4 Colossal at #3 Fam p3b-LB: Winner-Colo/Fam at #1 The Usual Suspects  TUE 4/27 (9:15PM) -- Here's the latest and greatest...  Colossal gets a bye for 5/2 because there is no other team to play against in the Losers Bracket. Depending on if Beast, which has single-elim, advances, Colossal may have to traverse the Losers Bracket with a doubleheader (or not). So, here are the matchups for 5/2... p2-WB: #5 Beast at #1 The Usual Suspects p2-WB: #3 Fam at #2 Dream Crushers AAA p2-LB: bye: #4 Colossal
WED 4/21 (1:00PM) -- The final standings thru 4/18 games have been posted. Here are the seeds going into the playoffs... 1. The Usual Suspects (6-1) -- won Western Conference 2. Dream Crushers AAA (5-2) -- won Eastern Conference 3. Fam (4-3) -- won head-to-head vs Colo 4. Colossal (4-3) -- lost head-to-head vs Fam 5. Beast (3-4) -- won head-to-head vs Flsh 6. Flashback (3-4) -- lost head-to-head vs Bst 7. Oakboyz (2-5) 8. Das Hoops (1-6) That gives us these first-round matchups for 4/25... playoffs1: #8 Das Hoops at #1 The Usual Suspects playoffs1: #7 Oakboyz at #2 Dream Crushers AAA playoffs1: #6 Flashback at #3 Fam playoffs1: #5 Beast at #4 Colossal The interesting one is Flashback vs Fam. As luck would have it, the two teams met in the final regular season matchup last weekend and Flashback won by 1. I would have no way of knowing if both teams were at full strength, but if they were, then even though they are a low #6 seed, Flashback knows it has a chance to upset. On the other hand, it is so hard to beat a team two straight weekends in a row. Because I have explicitly listed the games for 4/25 above, I'll hold off updating the roadmap below until further notice. MON 4/12 (10:30PM) -- Standings updated thru 4/11. Previous posts pertaining to AAA-OAK THU 3/11 (1:15PM) -- Thanks to Mason Chin for letting me know that I had AAA-SFP posted here instead of AAA-OAK. AAA-OAK is straightforward. Beast, Dream, Fam, and Colossal asked for opening byes on 2/28, so they will have to make it up some other Sunday, probably a doubleheader.
