Alameda Ballaz win A/R-OAK Lower Championship!
WED 5/26 (8:45PM) -- Congrats to the Alameda Ballaz, who beat the Dragons for the Lower A/R-OAK Championship. If there's a team photo, please email it to me so I can post it. Here's the final A/R-OAK Lower bracket...

Upper Playoff Brackets to conclude on 5/30
WED 5/26 (8:30PM) -- Yack Em forced a Repeat Championship against Thunder, and both teams agreed to play on 5/30, per available gym time. It will be played at 1p at TFRC (see SCHEDULE page)...

Playoff Brackets for A/R-OAK
TUE 5/18 (11:59PM) -- In the Upper Bracket, we're down to our Final Three on 5/23. Should there be a Repeat Championship in the event Thunder loses on 5/23, we will have a discussion between the remaining two team captains and figure out when to play the final Repeat Championship...

In the Lower Bracket, we're down to the one-and-done Championship showdown between the Dragons and Alameda Ballaz...

WED 5/12 (8:00AM) -- First, let's discuss the Upper playoffs. We have four teams remaining in the Losers Bracket. Normally, we match the highest against the lowest seed, but in this case, that would yield a repeat matchup: #1 Dream vs #8 Special. Since a repeat matchup this early in the playoffs would render the first meeting irrelevant, we move to the next-highest seed, while ensuring the other side of the Losers Bracket doesn't result in a repeat. We get this: #1 Dream vs #3 Wolfpack. That leaves #2 Yack Em vs #8 Special, which is not a repeat.
These matchups really don't matter in the grand scheme of things because it's a mini-final-four, the winners play each other to get one survivor out of four teams. So, we can avoid the repeat and we will. We will also end up with one team in the Losers Bracket to be joined by the loser of the Winners Bracket game. That leaves us with the Final Three teams ready to go for 5/23. If we need a Repeat Championship, we'll either do it 5/30 or 6/6, which overlaps into the beginning of the next season -- we'll cross that bridge later if we have to...

In the Lower Playoffs, we still have the same thing from last week's post, since we took 5/9 off. Scroll down to last week's post for details.
WED 5/5 (8:00AM) -- So we have two separate playoff brackets: Upper, which is double-elimination for all, and Lower, which is single-elimination, as explained in the previous post. Let's look at the Upper Bracket first...

We now have 5 teams in the Losers Bracket. We need to whittle that down to 2 by the end of this Sun 5/9, because we'll add the two losers from the Winners Bracket games. That will give us four LB teams, which we on 5/16 whittle down to one, and we're in position to get the bracket done by 5/23. If we need a Repeat Championship, we'll have to figure that out later, but we'll probably need to schedule it for 5/30 Memorial Weekend or the week after. The Winners Bracket, meanwhile, for 5/9 should be fairly straightforward.
Here are the Upper Bracket games for 5/9...
Upper-p2-WB: #8 Special K at #5 Cereal Killers Upper-p2-WB: #6 Thunder at #2 Yack Em Upper-p2a-LB: #9 FTNU at #7 Team Starz Upper-p2b-LB: Winner-FTNU/TmSt at #1 DreamCrushers A/R Upper-p2-LB: #4 Grey Goose at #3 Wolfpack (OAK)
In the Lower Bracket, it's a straight single-elimination bracket, so we can take 5/9 off for Mothers Day, as follows...

| A/R-OAK FINAL STANDINGS THRU 4/26 |

| Southwest | W | L | PCT | GB | | Grey Goose | 4 | 3 | 0.571 | -- | | Team Starz | 4 | 3 | 0.571 | -- | | Alameda Ballaz | 3 | 4 | 0.429 | 1.0 | | We Out Hurr | 3 | 4 | 0.429 | 1.0 | | Southeast | W | L | PCT | GB | | DreamCrushers A/R | 6 | 1 | 0.857 | -- | | Special K | 4 | 3 | 0.571 | 2.0 | | Team K | 2 | 5 | 0.286 | 4.0 | | Dragon | 2 | 5 | 0.286 | 4.0 | | Pacific | W | L | PCT | GB | | Wolfpack (OAK) | 5 | 2 | 0.714 | -- | | Cereal Killers | 5 | 2 | 0.714 | -- | | New Hope | 2 | 5 | 0.286 | 3.0 | | The Agents | 1 | 6 | 0.143 | 4.0 | | Central | W | L | PCT | GB | | Yack Em | 6 | 1 | 0.857 | -- | | Thunder | 5 | 2 | 0.714 | 1.0 | | FTNU | 4 | 3 | 0.571 | 2.0 | | Tone Team | 0 | 7 | 0.000 | 6.0 |
| Playoff seeds for A/R-OAK Upper/Lower determined
WED 4/28 (3:00PM) -- We'll start with the seeds for the Upper bracket, which will be double-elimination for all teams, whereas the Lower bracket will be single-elimination for all teams there...
A/R-OAK UPPER BRACKET (ALL DOUBLE-ELIMINATION) 1. Dream Crushers A/R (6-1) -- won Southeast Conf, won s-o-v (13.3) vs Yack 2. Yack Em (6-1) -- won Central Conf, lost s-o-v (12.0) vs DCAR 3. Wolfpack (OAK) (5-2) -- won h2h vs CKs, won Pacific Conf 4. Grey Goose (4-3) -- won h2h vs TmSt, won Southwest Conf 5. Cereal Killers (5-2) -- lost h2h vs WPO, won h2h vs Thun 6. Thunder (5-2) -- lost h2h vs CKs 7. Team Starz (4-3) -- won h2h vs SpcK, won s-o-v (10.8) vs FTNU 8. Special K (4-3) -- lost h2h vs TmSt, won s-o-v (7.5) vs FTNU 9. FTNU (4-3) -- lost s-o-v (4.8) vs TmSt/SpcK
Let's go through the tiebreakers one by one. Remember, we had basically the Southwest and Southeast as our morninger group and the Pacific and Central as our afternoon/evening-er group. Morningers never played against afternooners in the regular season. Therefore, the first two NFL tiebreakers after W-L record (head-to-head and record vs common opponents) were rendered useless, so we resort to the NFL's "strength of victory" tiebreaker, which Dream League interprets as point differential in games won. In Dream League, we also cap point differentials at 20 since we believe a 30-point blowout shows no more information than does a 20-point blowout.
So when we compare DCAR with Yack, we have to go to strength-of-victory. DCAR gets the nod with their 13.3 average point diff in games won vs Yack's 12.0.
In a four-team conference format, we give the top four seeds to the conference winners. Sometimes that's good, sometimes that's bad. It is what it is.
Also in an NFL-style tiebreaker system, you first determine who's on top within your group, then you compare to the outside. So, with Wolfpack beating Cereal in the regular season, Cereal cannot finish higher than Wolf. Since Thunder didn't win their conference, finishing behind Yack, Thunder needs to get compared with Cereal and Thunder lost that head-to-head. Therefore, Cereal is next after the conference winners at #5 and Thunder is #6.
With the ties at 4-3, we first check the head-to-heads and we see that Starz beat Special K, therefore Special cannot finish higher than Starz. With FTNU in the opposite group in terms of morninger/afternooner, we must resort again to strength-of-victory to determine that FTNU had a worse point diff in victories when compared to Starz, as well as Special K. And that's how we get Starz at #7, Special K at #8, and FTNU bringing up the rear at #9.
This is most profound for Special K, whose head-to-head loss to Starz has now proved costly in that the winner of #8 vs #9 must immediately play #1.
Here are the matchups for 5/2 in the Upper...
Upper-p1a: #9 FTNU at #8 Special K Upper-p1b: Winner-FTNU/SpcK at #1 DreamCrushers A/R Upper-p1: #7 Team Starz at #2 Yack Em Upper-p1: #6 Thunder at #3 Wolfpack (OAK) Upper-p1: #5 Cereal Killers at #4 Grey Goose
Here are the seeds for the Lower Bracket...
A/R-OAK LOWER BRACKET (ALL SINGLE-ELIMINATION) 1. Alameda Ballaz (3-4) -- won h2h vs WOH, "won" Southwest Conf 2. Team K (2-5) -- "won" Southeast Conf, won h2h vs Drgn, won s-o-v (10.5) vs Hope 3. New Hope (2-5) -- "won" Pacific Conf, lost s-o-v (7.0) vs TmK 4. Tone Team (0-7) -- "won" Central Conf 5. We Out Hurr (3-4) -- lost h2h vs AlBa 6. Dragon (2-5) -- lost h2h vs TmK 7. The Agents (1-6)
In the Lower Bracket, we continue the winner-per-conference theme, but in essence the conference "winners" didn't actually "win" their conference, they just ended up on top of the others after the .500-and-above teams entered the Upper. But still, you take one from each conference again, which is why Tone Team got the #4 seed despite having the worst record (this can be interpreted as getting beat up by the strong teams in the Central).
The Alameda Ballaz edged out We Out Hurr with a head-to-head win over them, so they get the #1 seed and, as a result of having 7 teams, get a first-round bye since there's no #8 seed here.
That means We Out Hurr drops all the way to #5, but lo and behold they get to face the winless Tone Team, so you see, sometimes things turn out okay (on paper).
We have these matchups for 5/2...
Lower-p1: bye: #1 Alameda Ballaz Lower-p1: #7 The Agents at #2 Team K Lower-p1: #6 Dragon at #3 New Hope Lower-p1: #5 We Out Hurr at #4 Tone Team
I will not be updating the roadmap anymore since I've already listed the matchups for 5/2 and, starting next week, I'll put the brackets up.
WED 4/21 (3:00PM) -- Only one makeup game from 4/18, but standings updated nevertheless. See roadmap below for matchups for 4/25 as we close out the regular season.
TUE 4/12 (8:00PM) -- Standings thru 4/11 updated. Also the roadmap per last week's changes.
WED 4/7 (9:15AM) -- Standings thru 4/4 games updated.
TUE 3/30 (3:30PM) -- Standings updated, thanks to Tony.
WED 3/24 (11:30AM) -- Moved 3/28 FTNU-TheA makeup game to 4/18, per request of The Agents. That means the doubleheader day (makeup) for FTNU and TheA is obviously now 4/18. Roadmap below updated.
TUE 3/23 (2:00PM) -- Updated standings, thanks to Tony (and Wylie last week). Updated roadmap due to 3/21 FTNU vs The Agents being moved (currently to 3/28, but who knows, FTNU is so in flux that I may need to move that out further).
FRI 3/19 (7:30AM) -- Updated roadmap, see list of updates on RH side of table below, due to WOH 9a-11a request for 3/21.
THU 3/18 (11:15PM) -- New standings and roadmap below. Please scroll down. Note: previous posts may be now irrelevant.

BYES: Byes are only allowable under special circumstances. If you have a bye later in the season that is not a formally requested bye, due to gym fluctuations and other unforeseen circumstances, that bye is not locked down; that week's block of games can still be shuffled around as necessary until you formally request that week to be a bye for your team.
GROUND RULES: 1. Please make sure the number of red rows (games moved from) equals the number of green rows (games moved to). 2. Make sure you have 7 regular season games listed with your team name. 3. The last 1 or 2 of 7 regular season games are usually encoded as inter-conference or other special type of matchup. 4. The playoffs are pretty much nailed down, barring unforeseen circumstances (i.e., no byes!) 5. Any special late bye requests at this point will require permission from other teams to shuffle them around. 6. Special late bye requests can *usually* be accommodated if your team plays a double-header some other week. But sometimes it depends on if your opponent is also stuck with a double-header.

Previous posts pertaining to A/R-OAK roadmap
THU 3/11 (12:30AM) -- The A/R-OAK has 16 teams which I have divided into two groups of 8, then further into four groups of 4. The 8+8 is based on morningers and afternooners. We have these conferences...
SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE Alameda Ballaz We Out Hurr Team Starz Grey Goose
SOUTHEAST CONFERENCE Dragon Team K DreamCrushers A/R Special K
PACIFIC CONFERENCE Wolfpack (OAK) Cereal Killers The Agents New Hope
CENTRAL CONFERENCE Tone Team FTNU Thunder Yack Em
...the Southwest and Southeast play generally in the first 6-hour timeframe, the Pacific and Central the last 6-hour timeframe. Therefore, if you are a morninger team and you make a special request for a night game, for example, you are probably out of luck.
Anyways, each group of 8 plays the other 7 teams once for your 7-game regular season. It's pretty straightforward. However, there's are two caveats. On 2/28, Team K vs Team Starz and FTNU vs The Agents effectively all took byes, so they may have to makeup their games with doubleheaders later in the season. We'll have to figure that out as soon as I figure out the strategy with 4/4 Easter in the next few days.
Here's the core dump until I can figure out Easter 4/4, then I'll pretty it up in table format...
