Remember Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey from Saturday Night Live? Well, here's the Bay Area dreamleague's weekly version: Cheep Thoughts. A collection of my thoughts on each game as I go thru the scoresheets and post scores on the website. One-plus minute per game multipled by about 45-50 games and I can knock this beast out in an hour -- yeah right, it always ends up being double. The idea here is that I do not spend hours upon hours of time coming up with game articles...
REC: WWWD 43-34 over Bay Function. Mualimu Collins 11 points. Brian Lau 9 rebounds. Greg Hom only 12 points for BayF on 5-for-18 shooting... Soo Park scored a superhuman 17 out of his total 23 points in the 4th quarter to help his Oakland Warriors storm back from a 31-25 3rd quarter deficit to win, 45-42, over Technics. Michael Tangi led Technics with 11... The Flint Tropics held off SFFA, 44-34 as SFFA hit a drought in the 2nd quarter with only 4 points. Shanko Wang led Flint with 12 points. Tall man Steve Long led SFFA with 9 points, but he shot just 4-for-15, 1-for-7 from downtown, and 0-for-4 from the charity stripe... Derek Lau leading the way for Highlife yet again with 21 points on 6-for-19 shooting as they defeated the SF Warriors 48-39... Still Balling's Jaybee Milian scored 8 of his 14 points in the 2nd quarter to help his team rise above MSG en route to a 52-47 win. Russell Lew with 20 points, 12 rebounds in defeat. Wade Murakami with 14 points, 7 assists in the win... Long Tran's two hot quarters overshadowed Feroz Subedar's one hot quarter as the Wolverines pulled away from The Triple Singles to win, 49-44. Tran had 7 points in the 2nd and 9 points in the 4th to total 19 points. Subedar led a furious Triple Singles' comeback in the 3rd with 8 of his 10 points as TTS erased a 25-17 deficit to head into the 4th down just 37-35. Give a pat on the back to the Wolverines' Richard Luu, who despite being one of the smallest cats on the court, pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the Wolves. Something tells me that the 0-for-4 in the 4th quarter accounted for a few rebounds too (as in, underneath the hoop, miss, rebound, miss, rebound, miss, etc.) -- but I could be wrong!... An anemic 4-point 3rd quarter did Dunjoz in, as they fell to Faded, 43-55. Robby Kwok tallied 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists... The Spartans' Adrian Garcia missed a boatload of shots, bricking 1-for-10 in the 1st quarter and ending with a 5-for-20 performance, but ACGT shot even worse, going just 4-for-34 through 3 quarters. The Spartans won, 41-24. Wilson Chan's 13 rebounds were the only bright spots for ACGT.
STANDINGS WATCH: Let's relist the standings since there are a couple of tiebreakers at the moment...
EASTERN 1. 5-1 What Would Wat Do 2. 4-2 Oakland Warriors (beat Bay Function) 3. 4-2 Bay Function 4. 3-3 Technics 5. 1-5 ACGT 6. 1-6 Spartans
NORTHWEST 1. 6-0 Highlife 2. 4-3 Faded 3. 3-3 MSG 4. 1-5 The Triple Singles 5. 0-6 SF Free Agents
Pretty tight races with Highlife, SF Warriors, and WWWD trying to separate from the pack. This Sunday we'll have matchups based on standings and we'll maybe see some playoff previews. The Flint Tropics try to inch closer to their 4th win and double-elim playoff status with a standings-based matchup against ACGT. ACGT is only 1-5, which might suggest that the Southwest Conference is rather strong. Due to the difficulties of the SF Free Agents geographically, the Spartans will actually travel to SF while all the other SF teams travel to Oakland.
